Publisher Description

Los Angeles Police Detective Peter Decker had grown very close to Rina's young sons, Sammy and Jake, as he had to their mother, and he looked forward to spending a day of his vacation camping with the boys. A nice reprieve from the grueling work of a homicide cop-until Sammy stumbles upon a gruesome sight...

Two human skeletons, charred beyond recognition, are identified by a forensic dentist as teenage girls--and for Decker, the father of a sixteen-year-old daughter, vacation time is over. Throwing himself professionally and emotionally into the murder case, he launches a very personal investigation: a quest that pulls him deep into the crack dens of Hollywood Boulevard and painfully close to the children of the streets and a nightmare world he must make his own.

"I look forward to continuing this series. Kellerman's character development seems very realistic, and there is enough suspense to keep me interested. Decker's doubts about his faith ring true, and just when I started to think Rina was too good to be true, well, she wasn't. "

" It's been a while since I've read any of Faye Kellerman's books and this was a good one to go with. One of the earlier ones that I had missed when I went through a F.K. phase. There wasn't a lot of references to things that had happened in previous books, and that was a good thing. There were a lot of Jewish customs in this one, more than I had remembered in other Peter Decker & Rina Lazarus novels. "

" I have read most of the Faye Kellerman Lazarus/Decker series, but I missed this one. It was fun to go back and remember how this relationship started, and I like reading about the Orthadox Jewish religion. "

" Another great Decker book. I read this after reading a few of the older books, and its very interesting to see the relationships growing. Very suspenseful, and great characters as always! "

" Just like the first book, this one was good but not as good as the first one. I'm not big on the Jewish thin but I really the mystery part of the book. I feel like the whole Jewish component gets in the way of the actual case. "

" I have mixed feelings about this book. The story at times is lumpy and tiresome. However, I am really getting attached to the main characters and want to read more. So that is what is keeping me going. "

" The second Decker-Lazarus book I've read. Good, solid who-dunnit with the D-L romance going as a side story. The case is quite complicated, set in the coarse underworld of L.A, and pretty gory. If you don't mind all that, you'll enjoy a good murder mystery. "

" 2nd in a series our Mystery Book Club is reading. This is a long running series so it will be ineresting to see how the religion/mystery aspect of the novels will be handled. I did not like it as well as the first. I believe that it is a transitional book in the series. "
