Synopsis

Rico Chavez is the most terrifying type of killer there is. Not only does he kill without remorse, but he is intelligent, crafty, and incredibly charming. This deadly combination guarantees that nobody can refuse Rico, at least not for very long. So when Rico sets out to kill Elena Kyler, she soon finds that she has No One to Trust.

Elena is trained as an assassin, and is used to having to fend for herself. She does not need anybody or anything to help her survive except that which is located between her ears. When Rico sets his sights on her, however, Elena realizes that this is one problem she cannot solve alone. And at a time when anybody could be a danger to her, Elena seeks out a very dangerous man.

Sean Galen is no idiot. He knows that the only reason Elena is seeking his help is out of sheer desperation. This is not the calm, calculated decision of a trained assassin, but the frantic plea of a mother who wishes to protect her child. The life which Elena is seeking to save is not her own. Although she does not wish to die, Elena's true goal is to spare her son from being raised in a world where the only parent he has to take after is his psychopath of a father.

Iris Johansen, born in the USA in 1938, is a critically acclaimed writer of mystery and suspense. Having been writing novels since her children left for college, Johansen had seen 17 consecutive books reach the #1 bestseller spot as of November 2006. Her two children are also involved in the writing trade- her son as an Edgar award winner, and her daughter as her personal research assistant. Johansen currently resides in Georgia with her husband.

"Ended up reading this book over but it was a refresher for me. I love Iris's books because her female characters are strong and don't depend on men for everything. This story is about a woman and her son who are on the run from the boys father. It is full of adventure and contains a bit of romance."

" Remarkable similar plotline to many of Johanson novels: Despartely in need women, meets hansome, viril man that's saves her and they live happily everafter...a fun read...lots of action...I am entertained by the book, but not floored by it...just what one would expect...save the woman and find love "

" Although this barely classifies as an Eve Duncan book, I'll accept it since it centers around one of my favorite characters, Sean Galen. The plot was quick and intriguing, although some repetition is surfacing...hopefully the rest of the series is more unique. "

" This was an okay book, and definately not one of Johansen's stronger books. There were no real surprizes and it was predicable, but I did enjoy it enough while listening to it in the car back and forth from work and I really liked the Reader for this book, I believe it was Kate Burton. "
