"I didn't care much for this book on the first read. I made myself read parts I left out the first time and enjoyed the book so much more. This is the book of Darius,Tohr and Xhex. Their story starts with Darius being accepted into the BDB but continues to be alone. He takes a young lad who is abandoned by his father into his home. They take in a young female who is rejected by her family. She has a half-breed daughter and then commits suicide. Tohr buries her under an apple tree. The males find a couple to raise the girl but Darius is attached to the infant and finds it hard to give her up.Fast forward 300 yrs, Darius has died and been reincarnated as John Matthew; Tohr has lost his wife and experienced not only her death but that of his unborn child and his own emotional death and Xhex has 2 near death experiences. She rebukes the advances of John Matthew only to realize that he was not the man she thought. Realizing that he is a "man of worth" she apologizes and proposes. On their wedding day, her mother appears and announces that she wants to have a relationship with Xhex if it's okay with her. She goes to the Fade but is rescued by The Scribe Virgin. She has been living as a chosen servant and calls herself No'one. Xhex and Tohr are in a state of shock. The end result is Darius aka John Matthew gets the girl he was attached to as an infant.John Mattew is starting to have visions from the past. And Tohr is back in the land of the living and is going to try to go on with his life. Xhex has had a lot of bad experiences but she is rescued by the man who rescued her 300 yrs ago. Karma?"

" Dragged on. I found it too superficial and wanted more depth and meaning where Lash was concerned. Not a favourite. "

— Rana, 11/13/2013" I don't have much to say except this one is by far one of my favorites in the series, right up there with the second story (Rhage). I was happy with the outcome for all characters, although I will be reading on to see how Payne is. "
— Emily, 9/1/2013" This was the latest installment in the Brotherhood books. It was the story of John Matthew and Xhex. It was pretty predictable and they didn't leave a lot of loose ends. I miss reading about all the brothers though. You barely hear about them now. "
— Brandy, 2/25/2013" Was sad when it ended. "
— Carin, 11/22/2012" i loved the build up for this book. it took 8 installments , but finally we got to their story and boy was it good. This is my second favorite one in the series,Zadist being one of course. It was great. "
