Dr. George K. Simon knows how people push your buttons: your children---especially teens---are experts at it, as is your mate. A coworker may quietly undermine your efforts while professing to be helpful, or your boss may prey on your weaknesses. Manipulative people have two goals: to win and to look good doing it. Too often, those they abuse are only vaguely aware of what is happening to them. In this eye-opening book, you'll discover:

  • four reasons why victims have a hard time leaving abusive relationships
  • power tactics manipulative people use to push their own agendas and justify their behavior
  • ways to redefine the rules of engagement between you and the abuser
  • how to spot potential weaknesses in your character that can set you up for manipulation
  • two tools for personal empowerment to help you maintain greater strength in all relationships

" This book could have benefited from a tighter edit, but the errors didn't detract that much from the writing. Covert aggressor is a more palatable way to process the sociopathic personality, and CA fits many people who don't exactly fall under sociopath. In reading this, I discovered that people I once termed passive aggressive are really covert aggressive. "

" I have so much to say about this book and all of its fascinating and essential insights. But I will write that later! Basically I recommend this book to EVERYBODY ON THE ENTIRE PLANET along with The Wisdom of the Enneagram: The Complete Guide to Psychological and Spiritual Growth for the Nine Personality Types. I swear that these two books have helped me unlike any others to understand people and develop a working philosophy for my interactions with them, and with myself, and just, a very accessible and nuanced examination of human nature. " This book doesn't go into a lot of detail, but that's OK. It's an easy read. I came away with a general insight into how to spot and deal with a class of people the author labels as covert-aggressive. These types appear to be friendly and helpful, but are actually just disguising their behavior in order to manipulate others to achieve their own goals. "

" While reading this book, I could vividly remember many times where I had been manipulated in previous arguments throughout the years. I knew I wasn't crazy! HA! I can definitely pinpoint when someone is just manipulating to try and get there way and although I need better practice on how to deal with this....at least I can recognize it now. Very quick, easy, informative read. "
