Once Olympia Wingfield had been free to devote all her time to her true passion: the study of ancient legends and long-lost treasure. But now, with three hellion nephews to raise, the absentminded beauty has very little time for research. Which makes it seem all the more serendipitous when a handsome stranger strides into Olympia’s library unannounced and proceeds to set her world to rights… Tall and dark, with long, windswept black hair, Jared Chillhurst is the embodiment of Olympia’s most exotic dreams…a daring pirate, masquerading in teacher’s garb, whose plundering kisses and traveler’s tales quickly win her heart. Yet all too soon innocent Olympia will discover the enigmatic and wickedly sensual Mr. Chillhurst is no lowly tutor but a future earl with a wealth of secrets – the kind that will lead them both on a perilous quest for a hidden fortune and a love worth more than gold. Listener Opinions

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Greta | 2/8/2014

" This is one of Amanda Quick's earlier novels, but I don't recall reading it before. A rollicking romp, with a sassy heroine and a hero we can all identify with. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Ms_prue | 2/1/2014

    " I bought it because pirates. :D "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Ana Kenley | 1/26/2014

" I like Amanda Quick and expected to like this novel. I was rather disappointed because I could not get interested in the plot. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kathi Sharp | 1/24/2014

" Disappointed. I had high hopes for Olympia and Jared. I love her distractedness with the real world. And her concern for her three nephews. And her loyalty to her aunts. Jared's cool, collected intensity when going after what he wants is a great foil for Olympia. They do make a great couple. The mystery of the lost treasure added much to the story so I was disappointed to see it left unsolved at the end. Jared wouldn't take Olympia into society, he didn't think to give her jewelry. The least he could do would be to take her and the boys on the grand adventure of her life to the West Indies. Now THAT would have been romantic. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Denise | 1/23/2014

" I am new to Amanda Quick novels and attempt to find new authors to read every summer. Deception was a flighty rom com with a little intrigue, but not clever enough to really keep my attention. I am moving on to Affair to see if that is any better. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Maryfran | 1/22/2014

" This is my favorite Amanda Quick book so far. I felt it had more humor than the other books and not the darkness of the villain that some of the other books have. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Steven | 1/20/2014

" I gave this one four stars because I enjoyed it and it was a fun read. I've become a real fan of Amanda. "

" Another great Jayne Ann Krentz re-read, this one is one of my favorites. I love the characters, the plot(s), and the dialogue. Anything with children and dogs is almost guaranteed to get my approval. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 LibraryLass | 11/14/2013

" As usual an excellent read. Amanda Quick is my comfort read and she never fails to give me a story I enjoy no matter how many times I re-read them. In fact she is one of only 3 or 4 authors I will actually re-read as I have far too many books waiting for me to explore. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jenny Schwartz | 11/9/2013

" Fun. Love the hero's swaggering dad and uncle. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Cruth | 10/22/2013

" A good solid Amanda Quick with a damaged hero (sightless eye) and a smart, off-kilter heroine. Three rather naughty orphaned boys, with Jared working as their tutor. It's fun, it's easy on the mind, but it has substance and engaging background characters. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Margo Dubach | 10/22/2013

    " Karen recommended, I agreed with 3 star + "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Cheryl Brown-Sarre | 8/8/2013

" My gajillionth reread of one of my favorite books. Nothing like a comfort reread to make you smile "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Christine | 6/14/2013

" This book has romance, suspense, treasure, pirates and a ship. All it was missing was someone walking the plank. Olympia was such a breath of fresh air that paired perfectly with the sea lord. Jared made a most excellent tutor ;-) "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Nancy | 6/8/2013

" This is a good historical romance. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Abby | 10/23/2012

" Amanda Quick is such a comfort read. Bluestocking heroine, interesting Alpha male, ironic secondary characters, and always a pair of quirky, gay, elderly aunts. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Elisa | 10/17/2012

" It's got riddles and clues and a lost treasure map and pirates and everything! I liked the boys and the dog -- they were cute. The housekeeper's kinda funny, too. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Laura | 5/12/2012

" Meh. This was usually well-written, but the romantic scenes were more hilarious than loving. And not in a good way. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Michelle | 1/6/2012

" I found myself rolling my eyes more often than not because of this story's very very cheesy dialogue. It got old fast, and I was expecting more out of this author. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Olga Godim | 7/10/2011

" A reread. I smiled all the way. Not that the book is funny - no it's not. It's a classic romance, but I smiled from the sheer pleasure of reading the old friend and enjoying it once again. It's like an old, favorite, comfy blanket. It might be slightly unraveling from age, but you still love it. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Megan | 6/9/2011

" Not usually used to the heroine just giving in and letting the hero do what every he wants.
But is seemed to work in this book. I enjoyed all the characters, especially Olimpia's Nephews. "

" Reread, jan 2010. Ebook version.

Vintage Quick, like the scholarly heroine, who pretends to a little more "woman of the world" than she is.

And a hero who isn't really quite the sensible boring type his flamboyant family thinks he is. "
