Within the pages of very rare books, some centuries old, lie the secrets of the paranormal. Abby Radwell’s unusual psychic talent has made her an expert in such volumes — and sometimes taken her into dangerous territory. After a deadly incident in the private library of an obsessive collector, Abby receives a blackmail threat, and rumors swirl that an old alchemical text known as The Key has reappeared on the black market. A number of ruthless people are searching for the book. Some believe that Abby can find it for them. Abby wants no part of it. But the pressure mounts after a rare-book dealer dies mysteriously. Convinced that she needs an investigator who can also play bodyguard, Abby hires Sam Coppersmith, an expert in paranormal crystals and amber — “hot rocks.” Passion flares immediately between them, yet neither entirely trusts the other. Both are concealing secrets. Both have their own agendas. Sam concludes that the only way to keep Abby safe is to take her to property owned by his rich and reclusive family — a compound in the small town of Copper Beach, on a private island. But small towns are no safer than large cities when it comes to dealing with a killer who has paranormal talents, and a blackmailer who will stop at nothing to obtain an ancient alchemical code. . . .

"It seems some readers did not enjoy this new series beginning. It runs in a similar vein, but it is different enough and employs all kinds of different characters and paranormal activity and, of course, a love story, which all mesh together quite well and enjoyably. I look forward to the series as well as the quick Amanda Quick short at the end of the book about Crystal Gardens coming out in April. That too sounds like a fun book. These are relaxing, escapism type stories and are an improvement on the old Arcane Series for sure."

" This is a new series and because I like the author, I'll read it - but I won't go crazy looking for it. "
— Carrie, 2/7/2014" More of a 3.5 start really. I always look forward to any new books by JAK, JK or AQ so I couldn't wait to start on Copper Beach. All in all I did like the book but it felt like it wasn't up to par as the other books in her J&J series. "
— Dakota, 2/6/2014" I did really like this book, but I felt a little let down when I finished. It felt like something was missing, like the entire book was a massive prologue, with hints of secrets not yet revealed. Sam and Abby were both terrific, but I didn't really feel the sparks between them. This is one of my favorite authors, but not my favorite of her works. "
— Donna, 1/22/2014" another great book by Jayne ann Krentz. Contains mystery, suspense, and romance. What more could you want. "
— Ann, 1/20/2014" I enjoyed this paranormal romantic-suspense novel, although it somehow didn't suck me in like some of her other books. Perhaps the heroine's talent (unlocking the codes in paranormal books) seemed rather obscure, or perhaps because the romantic tension wasn't quite there for me. In any case, it's an enjoyable escape read. "
— Carla, 1/11/2014" Fun, but I kind of missed Arcane... "
— Carrie, 1/8/2014" I loved this book. A good love story with a little intrigue. "
— Ruby, 1/6/2014" I do not normally read books about the paranormal but it was a quick read with an interesting plot "
— Harriet, 1/5/2014" Great escapist fair. An easy read. "
— Pam, 6/17/2013" I loved this book, but thats nothing new I love all of her books, She has a great plot, lots of murder, great characters, some hot sex, and always a nice twist on the ending. A very quick read, hard to put it down. "
— Linda, 4/16/2013" Since I read my first book by Jayne Ann Krentz, probably one of her Stephanie James novels, this author has been one of my favorite modern romance authors. "
— Sigrun, 4/10/2013" Paranormal romance mystery - first in a series. "
— Donna, 3/31/2013" I've read many of Janye Krentz books and most the time can't put them down once I start. I had a hard time getting into to this story though. Felt it was slower than normal for the storyline to really progress. "
— Eva, 12/1/2012" Abby and Sam were a good couple. I think I liked Newton best though:) "
— Janna, 6/27/2012" Completely run-of-the-mill Jayne Krentz; wish she would have spent a bit more time on the characters (not necessarily the romance, but the characters as themselves) than we actually got. Fine as a fluff read, but not her best effort. "
— Joy, 2/21/2012" This one wasn't bad - I liked the characters and the writing. The subject was interesting too - all about unlocking books which have protective spells placed on them, and crystals, and auras, and stuff like that. "
