Lieutenant Eve Dallas must immerse herself in her billionaire husband Roarke’s world of big business to uncover the identity of a hit man in this thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series.
On Manhattan’s East Side a woman lies dead at the bottom of the stairs, stripped of all her valuables. Most cops might call it a mugging gone wrong, but Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows better.
A well-off accountant and a beloved wife and mother, Marta Dickenson doesn’t seem the type to be on anyone’s hit list. But when Eve and her partner, Peabody, find blood inside the building, the lieutenant knows Marta’s murder was the work of a killer who’s trained, but not professional or smart enough to remove all the evidence.
But when someone steals the files out of Marta’s office and the killer’s violent streak begins to escalate, Eve knows she has to draw him out, even if it means using herself as bait…

"I continue to enjoy JD Robb's In Death series. I love to see Eve and Roarke's relationship evolve in the backdrop of murder. If you like to try and guess whodunnit, In Death books may not be for you, as Eve often lets us know who she's identified as the killer and she's usually right. But if you like a kick-ass cop and sexy bazillionaire, then the books are up your alley. If you haven't ready any In Death, I'd recommend starting with the first three books. After that they don't necessarily have to be read in order, although there is continuity of story and character development through each, so it helps to read in order."

“Robb (the pen name of Nora Roberts) supplies her usual winning blend of keen investigative work, striking characterizations, and enthusiastic sex, all leavened with a fine sense of humor.”
— Publishers Weekly“Robb excels.”
— New York Journal of Books" Since I started this seires a couple of years ago (and have read all 30 plus books)I can see how the main character (Eve Dallas) has evolved.I have enjoyed this series so much and am always looking to see when the next book will be hitting the shelves at my local book store.I'm really surprized by all the different plots and sub stories going on and how an author can keep coming up with fresh material. And all I can say is that J.D.Robb is one of the best! "
— Natalie, 2/14/2014" I still enjoy the Eve/Roarke books. Most series lose me after the first 10 or so books, but this one is still going strong. "
— Maddy, 2/10/2014" I adore this unrealistic, futuristic crime fighting drama! Right along with the sexy Irish hubby, the funky friends, the constant battle with the butler, their fat feline, and of course the who dun nit aspect! "
— Ellen, 2/5/2014" I loved this next addition to the series. Current topic of financial games mixed with characters I love. "
— Robin, 2/2/2014" A typical, completely without surprises JD Robb. I wish she would go back to writing less shallow books and more character driven stories. "
— farmwifetwo, 1/29/2014" I really like the characters in this series. The relationship development keeps getting better with each book. "
— Joan, 1/23/2014" As usual Robb has done it again. This is a fast moving story with great results. "
— Shirl, 1/19/2014" I have yet to listen or read to a JD Robb that I don't enjoy. In this one we gain even more insight into Eve as she becomes more comfortable with herself, her friends and Roarke. "
— Shay, 1/18/2014" Really enjoyed the story; would like the ending to be a little more detailed. "

— Erich, 11/25/2013" For some reason I just couldn't get into this book. It was dry and not as interesting as the others, and Eve was more smug than usual. Hopefully, Robb just had an off-day. "
— Miki, 9/14/2013" Usual good read in this series. "
— Pat, 9/6/2013" Felt very rote, more of an extended novella or a subplot than a story deserving it's own book. I still like the characters, but this lacked the panache of previous books. "
— Sabrina, 7/26/2013" Fast paced. Intense. Don't know how she does it. Still not sick of this series. Probably going to reread from the beginning one of these days. "
— Dianna, 6/1/2013" Yay! Dallas and Roarke are back. "
— Debra, 5/12/2013" A good Roarke and Dallas read. I kept reading, and not putting it down for long. "
— Gilda, 4/9/2013" I love this series, watching the evolution of characters over an extended period of time gives a much greater insight into the people and makes for a much more enjoyable read. "
— Susan, 3/27/2013" One of my favorite series, this one was good, and I enjoyed the interplay between Eve and the other characters. "
— Vera, 3/14/2013" I feel like JD Robb is back, better than ever! The old Eve Dallas novels...keep them coming! "
— Holly, 3/8/2013" This one felt a little forced to me. I feel as if the series is drawing a close soon. Maybe gearing up to end with Eve pregnant or something. "
— Manda, 3/3/2013" It was like reading one of the older books again, the story was too familiar, the dialogues old and tired. I think the author is herself tired of writing these series. "
