Plot Summary

From Christopher Paolini, the critically acclaimed author of the wildly popular novel Eragon, comes the second book in the Inheritance Cycle; Eldest: The Inheritance Cycle, Book 2. Set immediately after the end of the first book, the story follows a greatly matured Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, as well as his cousin Roran as they battle the powerful forces of the evil King Galbatorix. Eragon and Saphira decide to leave their native kingdom and traverse the elf kingdom, where they are trained mentally and physically in order to fight Galbatorix and his servants, the Ra'zac. They join an elf clan, where they each meet a love interest and attempt to learn the ways of the elves in order to prepare for a penultimate battle with Galbatorix for the fate of the kingdom.

Meanwhile, Eragon's cousin Roran remains in the village and continues to rally his community against invasions by the Ra'zac at the behest of Galbatorix. He joins forces with the Varden, the secret society committed to the deposition of the evil king, and helps to conspire against the evil empire that killed his father in the first book and continues to commit atrocities and ravage the defenseless.

This second novel from Christopher Paolini is just as riveting and imaginative as the first, and is a must read for anyone who enjoyed Eragon.

Christopher Paolini graduated high school at the age of 15, the same age he began working on the Inheritance Cycle novels. Born in Montana to two parents in the publishing industry, he cites them and the landscape of Montana as influences for his work, along with such writers as J.R.R Tolkien and Brian Jacques.

"I did end up crying when I read this book. Now I really didn't like the first few pages in this book just because of the bloody ritual they did but I would read this book a hundred times more and just skip that part. "

" The decision to split the last book in two in my opinion was the wrong choice. It was very slow and had very few important details added into its many pages. However, it was deffinently worth reading. "
