"John Flanagan has dome it again. I've followed this series up to book four, and I have every intention to finish it all the way through. And it's all thanks to the perfectly paced way that the books Re written. I love the amount of detail that the author puts into these books. he could simply say "will saw the man get shot" but instead he says "a deep Turin came from somewhere behind him, then the air-splitting hiss of a heavy shaft traveling at incredible speed, with enormous force behind it. Finally, will heard the solid smack as it struck home." all of the books in the series I've read so far have been amazing. And each book it seems is just setting up the events for the next, making what seems to be an endless tale of courage, adventure, true heroism, and extreme loyalty. Five stars"

" I still love these books, don't let the 3 stars throw you, but the writing level of awesomeness has gone down a little. I don't know if the author is just really pushing to get these out, but they aren't as well written as the 1st. Don't get me wrong, the story is still excellent, but the descriptions are getting a little flat and predictable. "

" The fourth book in the series is a relief from the gloomy feel of the third book. But it is also fairly sad, a war in Skandia, where Will and the Princess were being held as slaves until escaping and living in the wilderness, brakes loose when invaders attempt to take Skandia to use their boats to attack Wills home Kingdom. " Book four in the series of The Ranger's apprentice. This story is the continuation of the kidnapping of two children who are now in the throes of a war between two countries they do not share much love with. It is a fun read because it has lots of tongue in cheek humor, plus a never ending twist plot that has you rooting for one enemy only to change your mind and root for the other three pages later. It is a book that brings tactics of war into play in such a manner that has the reader thinking of ways to compensate for a lost campaign and desiring to change events in order to see a different strategy. I am not much for wars, and yet this book was like playing a chess game in which one must trust the known traits and personality of the opponent in order to ensure the rightful outcome. Having been lucky enough to travel through Sweden for eight Summers, I was happy to have a lot of imagery brought back so that between the fertile imagination of the writer and the insightful descriptions of the places, I had an accurate portrayal. 294 pgs. " The Fourth in the Ranger Apprentice series. I liked this book better than The Icebound Lands. Do not read on if you don't want to know the plot. Will and Halt are reunited and help save Skandia from a terrible menace. I felt Halt's meeting with the King was a bit awkward and unlike his character and the romantic tension between Will and Cassandra is left for another book to resolve. "

About John Flanagan

John A. Flanagan grew up in Sydney, Australia hoping to be a writer. It wasn’t until he wrote a highly uncomplimentary poem about a senior executive at the agency he worked, however, that his talent was revealed. It turned out one of the company directors agreed with John’s assessment of the executive, and happily agreed to train John in copywriting. After writing advertising copy for the next two decades, John teamed with an old friend to develop a television sitcom, Hey Dad!, which went on to air for eight years. John began writing the Ranger’s Apprentice series as a way to encourage his son, Michael, to enjoy reading. He currently lives in the suburb of Manly, Australia, with his wife.
