"I listened to the audiobook, and as always I thoroughly enjoyed Jim Dale's performance. I enjoyed Emerald Atlas but I enjoyed Fire Chronicle even more. Experiencing the story from Michael's POV made for such a strong emotional connection. You really can't help but root for him. The ending is a bit frustrating, but I can't wait for the next book and Emma's story. I guess this series is typical middle grade fantasy, but Stephens tells a good story."

Starred Review, Publishers Weekly, October 8, 2012:“Fans of The Emerald Atlas will find much to love: the adventure-driven plot, a scattering of deliciously scary moments, and Stephens’s offbeat take on Tolkienesque dragons, dwarves, and elves are sure to delight.”
Starred Review, School Library Journal, October 1, 2012:“Fans of the first book won’t be disappointed, and will eagerly anticipate the next one. The Emerald Atlas was very good. This one is even better.”
Starred Review, Kirkus Reviews, September 1, 2012:“Irreverent humor and swashbuckling adventure collide in a fetching fantasy.”
" The sequel to the Emerald Atlas, the adventure continues. This is a young adult fantasy in the tradition of The Chronicles of Narnia or Harry Potter. The series begins and returns to the present, though adventures take three siblings through a magical world complete with elves, dwarfs, magicians and witches. Not as sophisticated as Tolkien, though more mature than Narnia. This is a solid work for the genre and lots fun if you like this sort of thing. "
— Ray, 2/18/2014" It got even better! I love it when the sequel proves to be more intriguing. This one has mystery, humor, as there are sections, you just have to laugh out loud, and if I'm laughing then I know the middle school age readers will too. It ends with you wondering when's the next book? For those needing tales similar to the HP books, this series will suit them. "
— Renee, 2/11/2014" oh my god. I have to wait a year and a half to read the next one. currently killing myself "
— Elissa, 2/8/2014" This book was a little slow to start, but the action continued to build to a very suspenseful ending. My biggest complaint with this series is the wait between books. I don't think the release date for the next book has even been announced yet. Must we wait so long? And (spoiler alert) please don't let Rafe be a bad-bad guy. I really like him. "
— Jean-Marie, 2/4/2014" I really like this series, but this book had just a few too many twists and turns to be a five star. I am definitely looking forward to the third book! "
— Amanda, 1/29/2014" OH. MY. GOSH. THIS BOOK WAS BEYOND WORDS AMAZING. I can't even describe my feelings for this series so far, every little bit of it is amazing, and this book just made it even better!!! Every part of this book was perfect and it's one of my favorite books OF ALL TIME. I will definetly be re-reading the first two books before book 3 comes out. I JUST REALLY DON'T FEEL LIKE WAITING!!! "
— Fred, 1/23/2014" Not really my genre, but read by Jim Dale so I listened to it all :) "
— Corien, 1/18/2014" Great book, but I thought the Emerald Atlas was better. Can't wait for the next book!!! Emma and Michael become more complex characters. Recommended to fans of the Harry Potter books. "
— Leah, 1/4/2014" Can't wait for the third!! :D "
— Bethany, 1/2/2014" This is a book I listened to (Jim Dale is the reader). Great story-this one has a huge cliff hanger and I should have waited to read it. Now I will have to re-read (listen) when the third one finally comes out. "
