Publisher Description

Every man was once a boy. And every little boy has dreams, big dreams: dreams of being the hero, of beating the bad guys, of doing daring feats and rescuing the damsel in distress. Every little girl has dreams, too: of being rescued by her prince and swept up into a great adventure, knowing that she is the beauty. But what happens to those dreams when we grow up? Walk into most churches, have a look around, and ask yourself: What is a Christian man? Without listening to what is said, look at what you find there. Most Christian men are . . . bored. In Wild at Heart, John Eldredge invites men to recover their masculine heart, defined in the image of a passionate God. And he invites women to discover the secret of a man’s soul and to delight in the strength and wildness men were created to offer.

"This book was given to me almost 10 years ago from my sister, but only now am I finally reading it. Was recommended to me by a friend and minister whom I was seeking godly counsel from. After seeing the cover again and again throughout the years, God is so ministering to me through it and I wish I would've read it long time ago. Speaks loudly to my heart about some longstanding inner struggles I still deal with, like "Do I have what it takes?" Through this book God is doing wonders in my soul, for which I am eternally grateful to Him and his servant who wrote it for wounded men. Half way through the book, I have more hope now than ever before that I will live what God created me to be. Free indeed!"

Quotes

  • “The best, most insightful book I have read in at least the last five years.”

    — Chuck Swindoll
  • “Eldredge’s recurring message is simple: When you give yourself to Christ, God makes your heart good. Your heart matters to God. Liberate your heart and its deepest desires, and your love for God will explode.”

    — Christianity Today
  • “Although the book succeeds best in its slant toward a male audience, it also strives to help women understand the implications of authentic masculinity in their relationships with men. Eldredge frames the book around his outdoor experiences and appealing anecdotes about his family, sprinkling the text with touches of humor and overlying everything with heartfelt passion.”

" My husband requested this book in prison. Hearing how much it meant to him I ordered the audio version. What a great book. Helping me understand the Wild nature in man's heart. The Book hit on so many things that seem to be an issue today with our new generation. Taking the headship away from a man. Love the book. I recommend it to any couple, especially the man willing to read it. I plan to get the follow up book written by his wife. "

" This is the best book I've read to uncover what God wired in a man's heart. John's basic concepts on the three desires of a man's heart (for a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and for a beauty to rescue) and on the haunting question every man asks are extremely insightful. Of all John's books, this is by far the most well-written. It just flows! "
