No one knows why Lara Mallory opens up her medical practice in the rowdy Texas town where Tackett Oil owns everything. But everyone remembers her role in the well-publicized scandal that caused the downfall of White House hopeful Senator Clark Tackett.

Now the ironfisted matriarch of Tackett Oil intends to use her money and power to drive Lara out of town—especially when Lara meets Key, the hell-raising, youngest Tackett son. Before long, this determined woman doctor and brash, daring flyer find themselves hurtling on a soul-searing quest for the one secret that can destroy the Tackett empire.

" This Sandra Brown novel was a bit slow for me. I didn't warm to the main characters as much as others of her characters and the plot was a bit far fetched. The publishers blurb wasn't really accurate either now that I have gone back and read it but too late now. Still enjoyed it enough to read it in two days so that can't be all bad. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kristiani Rivera | 12/23/2013

" I enjoyed the two main characters of the book even though the female character was extremely frustrating toward the end. The very end was of course predictable just from reading the book's summary but easy, enjoyable read. Good for a random day off when you don't want to do anything but read. "

" Pretty formulaic but entertaining if you enjoy the standard romance. Avoided a couple of cliche' moments - which was a great relief. "

" Great read. I think that I enjoy Sandra Brown books because almost all of them are set in Texas and Louisiana so I can really picture the settings. This one moves very fast and has a good plot. Key and Lara are good characters that develop throughout. Definitely not a disappointment. "

OOOPs. The more I read, the worse it got--the language, plot, preachiness, characters full of psychobabble about themselves and others. Ugh. I had to stop.
