In the resplendence of William the Conqueror's London court, the lovely Saxon captive, Nicholaa was forced to choose a husband from the assembled Norman nobles. She chose Royce, a baron warrior whose fierce demeanor could not conceal his chivalrous and tender heart. Resourceful, rebellious and utterly naive, Nicholaa vowed to bend Royce to her will, despite the whirlwind of feelings he aroused in her. Ferocious in battle, seasoned in passion, Royce was surprised by the depth of his emotion whenever he caressed his charming bride. In a climate of utmost treachery, where Saxons still intrigued against their Norman invaders, Royce and Nicholaa revelled in their precious new love...a fervent bond soon to be disrupted by the call of blood, kin and country!

"Very good :) I was glad that Royce finally realized what he was doing to Nicholaa near the end, and fixed it on his own (unlike some other books where the heroine says something and he just turns around for no reason). I liked that it was set in such a historical time, and it seemed well researched."

" Very enjoyable lighthearted entertainment. Enjoyed the diversion. "
— Glenajo, 2/11/2014" a very fun read after something heavy. "
— Kathleen, 2/7/2014" Another one that I didn't really care for, but again, hard to know if it's the time period (this one is set in 1066), as I am not a fan of historical romance set in the Middle Ages. It's just too hard to get away from the "women as chattel" angle of the times to really get into a story based on that time, unless the characters are completely anachronistic (which these are not). It also felt like a retread of her first book, Gentle Warrior, in many scenes. The two leads just seemed really similar to the two leads in the previous book. Some authors pull that kind of thing off well (McNaught is an example - her male leads sometimes seem interchangeable, but she writes the stories so well, I just don't care!), but this being still an early work by Garwood, the plot isn't strong enough to carry that flaw, for me at least. "
— Melowin, 1/20/2014" Ugh. Julie Garwood's books are just the same crap over and over - why do I keep reading them? I think I'm officially done now. :p "
— Marti, 1/19/2014" I needed to read this again after going to Medieval Times with my hubs. I like having something to help quiet my brain after days of studying. "

— Imelda, 1/6/2014" a 3.5. good historical romance. Garwood's typical mix of romance and suspense, which I like. "

— ReadingWench, 12/12/2013" As I have started reading Julie Garwood's books, I have found that all the love scenes are the same. The wording is the same. Very predictable. But the story lines are different. I liked this story. Another finding love tale. "
