FBI special agent Dave Richman has spent his life protecting people; failure is not in his vocabulary. He’ll figure out a way to protect Kate even if she is determined to make it difficult.

Kate O’Malley’s specialty is hostage situations, defusing human time bombs before they go off. She will walk into the middle of a crisis if that’s what is necessary to settle a situation. She’s learned to let others see what she wants them to see. She’s learned to depend on herself. Only herself. People die if she fails.

Kate is a target. Someone’s been sending her black roses. Maybe the same person who just blew up an airplane and blamed Kate. Then the investigation brings up the one name Kate hoped never to hear again and she’s faced with the shocking evidence that the bomber may be someone she knows. Now she has to decide if Dave, and the God he trusts so implicitly, is all he’s supposed to be. And Dave is about to discover that loving a hostage negotiator is one thing, but keeping her safe is another matter entirely.

" I enjoyed this book - it's about a strong woman character who has to let go of some of her self-sufficiency to allow for somebody else to protect her when she is targeted by someone who wants to kill her. There is suspense and action, but it is obvious in parts of the story that this book is a bit dated. I will probably read the next books in the series, just to see how they develop all of the characters that were introduced in this book. "

" Fantastic book series!!! This one that started it off was great and I was just so drw into reading about the O'Malley siblings. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Bonnie | 2/1/2014

" I really enjoyed this book. The story was compelling and the characters likeable. It was refreshing to read a book where there was no bad language or people falling into bed together on short acquaintance. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Debby | 1/19/2014

" 1st in the 6 part series, I was hooked from the first CD. This self-made family is realistic and touches your heart. This is Kate's O'Malley's story - she's a police negotiator and initially not a Christian. A hostage situation, her sister Jennifer, and falling in love with FBI agent Dave Richman all contribute to her conversion and future happiness. "

" I really liked this story but it was really similar to the prequel. I did like getting to know the O'Malleys. I am curious to keep reading the stories to see what happens with the rest of the "siblings". A great read and had a great section on the idea of justice vs. mercy in the Bible and with God. "
