Robert is a successsful attorney who is losing his family in the process of trying to get a better job. Nathan on the other hand has adifferent problem. Just only eight years old and he is going to lose his mother. Maggie, his mother, was diagnosed with cancer and it seems as she is not going to make it. Nathan desperate to make his mother happy before she goes to God, goes to the store and finds a pair of red shoes which he think will be great for his mother. While on the line, Robert, the attorney is there doing some last minute Christmas shopping. Finally it's Nathan's turn, but he does not have enough money. Suddenly losing hope, he turns to Robert ( who is right behind him) and asks for help telling him his story. At that moment Robert learns a valuable lesson. Somethimes the smallest things in our lives make all the difference."

" I really strongly dislike the Christmas Shoes song that is played over and over on the radio at this time of year, but this book (the story behind the song) was much better. The story is told in first person by the man who ended up paying for the little boy's shoes. It was a cute and touching little story, and a very quick read. "

" Why are such books written? Why would one want to tug at my heartstrings so? Why would one make me refer this book to my mother & my sister? Why make me go hunt out the second in the series to continue this torture? Why, Why, Why??? I believe this book was also a song & a movie. "
