From the author of Jemima J and Falling comes the New York Times bestseller about finding your place in the place you call home. Ever since her life took an unexpected turn, Nan Powell has enjoyed living alone on the sun-drenched shores of Nantucket. At sixty-five, she’s just as likely to be found at Windermere, her beach front home, as she is skinny dipping in her neighbor’s pool. But when the money she thought would last forever starts to dwindle, Nan decides to do something drastic to keep hold of her free-spirited life: open up Windermere to strangers. After placing an ad for summer rentals touting water views, direct access to the beach, and a sexagenarian roommate, Nan’s once quiet house is soon full of noise, laughter, and the occasional bout of tears. Between her eclectic new tenants and the sudden return of her son, Nan gets a taste of what life is like when you have someone to care for besides yourself. But just as she starts to happily settle in to her new existence, the arrival of a visitor from her past threatens to turn everyone’s lives upside down...

"A lovely story about a widow who lives in an historic beach house on Nantucket. When she finds that she is not as wealthy as she thought, she takes in boarders. The mix of people and their issues past and present are quite entertaining."

" the Beach House is a very enjoyable read. "
— Canterbury, 2/19/2014" Fun, easy read with mostly predictable plotlines...though one did kind of surprise me. "
— Fonda, 2/16/2014" The author has a nice way of introducing characters in this book. They all end up blending together as friends but more like a big family "
— Camandwmm, 1/31/2014" Loved this Notting Hill-like story set in Nantucket. "
— Kate, 1/25/2014" Once I got past all of the adultery at the beginning, I really enjoyed it. Quite a few twists and surprises. "
— Marci, 1/18/2014" The story starts out with a 65 year old woman who tells us she is more confident and less worried about her looks at that age. It then goes on to describe how tall, thin and elegant she is and how beautiful she was when she was young. Despite her new found confidence she can't go out without her make-up on and is constantly thinking that this or that man would light her cigarette for her if she was 30 years younger. If she is more confident NOW what the heck was she THEN. Then we learn that she had an easy life after marrying into a wealthy family and has a house in Nantucket and an apt in Manhattan. I did not find her character endearing in the least even with her eccentricities. I don't relate to people whose beauty has acquired them all in life and especially when they are too stupid to actively manage their money and have to rent out their house to make a few bucks. I put this book down after chapter 2. "
— Angela, 1/13/2014" I could not put this one down. Great story and unpredictable twist. "
— Shaina, 1/13/2014" Perfect vacation read! I couldn't put it down! "
— Trina, 1/11/2014" Very good book, mellow vibe and quick read. Not as captivating as her other books, but good anway! "
— Martine, 12/8/2013" A little slow in the beginning, but I like books where everything comes together at the end. "
— Melinda, 11/23/2013" It was OK, definitely not one of her better novels. "
