Artemis is at boarding school in Ireland when he receives an urgent e-mail from Russia. In it is a plea from a man who has been kidnapped by the Russian Mafia: his father. As Artemis rushes to his rescue, he is stopped by a familiar nemesis, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon fairy police. But this time, instead of battling the fairies, he is going to have to join forces with them if he wants to save one of the few people in the world he loves.

"I think I like this one better than the first. Possibly because Artemis begins to exhibit some human emotions & is more attractive for it. The action is quite good, especially during the scenes set in Murmansk, & it leaves a good villain still around for future books in the person of Opal Koboi."

The world Colfer creates is as vivid and fantastical as any shire, Gotham, or galaxy far, far away in recent memory.

— Tommy, 1/27/2013" Honestly I struggled to finish this it just isnt my style I dont think. Didnt hold my attention or make me want to get back to it when I put it down. Story line was OK just not my thing. As much as I like to finish series once started I just cant do it with this one. "

— Matea, 8/17/2012" I think this book is a fascinating book. It has a lot of action. The author of the book is Eoin Colfer. This is a series. It is about how Artemis Fowl went to look for his dad. He meets Captain Short of LEP. He doesn't like him that much. In the end they destroy the goblin base. "
— Tarek, 6/28/2012" I think the title is not to accurate because even though they are in the arctic most of the story happens under ground. "
— Louie, 12/22/2011" Artemis is more boy than villain in this installment, and the People dominated the story. Still very enjoyable, especially the characters. :) "
