"Riley Bloom does it again. I know I didn't write much about the first book but I had already completed the second and it was way more worth writing about. The first book was great, don't get me wrong and with the second she took it to a whole new level. I never expected a story quite like the one Alyson tells through Riley. After death Riley arrives at the Here and Now. She becomes a Soul Catcher where she goes to the earth plane to help souls "cross the bridge". Her Character grows so much as she learns about people and getting them to cross. The story even incorporates historical events. The story is heart wrenching and delightful. The only downside to Alyson's writing is she repeats herself a lot. I know it is written for young adults and that could be a strong reason why she reiterates facts through the book but it gets a little tedious being reminded every chapter that she's dead or that old habits are hard to break. I really enjoyed the story and the progress of the writing is impressive. I can't wait to read the next installation in Riley's Story."

“Bestselling author Alyson Noël gives fans the second book in her fascinating series about Riley Bloom and her life after death. The character of Riley brings a lot of energy to the story, and her clumsy but heartfelt attempts to do what's right are endearing and contagious.
— KidsReads.comUnderstanding and enjoying this book does not hinge on having read Radiance (Square Fish, 2010), but readers will be quickly drawn to Riley and want to learn more about this spunky character and her previous experiences. The author's sharp contemporary wit in concert with her fascinating fantasy setting and important historical connections will draw readers through this enjoyable novel and have them begging for Riley's third adventure.
— School Library JournalNoël ably captures the cadence of tweenspeak in this lively, action-packed adventure.
— Booklist" The best book ever "
— kali, 5/14/2019" This book was a fast and fun read. The characters were well written and while I still don't like the main character Riley I love her dog and her friend Budhi. The adventures are cool and i can't wait for dreamland. "
— ༺, 1/22/2014" Shimmer was an okay sequel to Radiance. I think I liked Radiance better though. Shimmer started off kind of slow and boring. It took about fifty pages before I really got into it(for page counters that's a third of the book). Riley has matured a bit more than the first book. We get more of a glimpse into her life when she was still alive. I was also excited to be able to learn Bahdi's story. The book finally gave a lot of information about him. There were a few plot holes and spelling errors. When I read the book, I had a hard time liking any of the characters. Even though Riley matured, she still has whiny, bratty tendencies which make her annoying at times. I couldn't stand Rebecca, one of the new characters. She was a spoiled brat and a horrible person. Riley took pity on her after hearing all of her story, but I couldn't. The prince seemed weird and freaky at first. However, towards the end, I felt bad for him. After hearing Bodhi's story, I felt sad. For someone to have to go through that guilt and suffering is horrible. He was so caught up in his own grief that he didn't realize it wasn't his fault. I wasn't very impressed with this book, but I will continue this series because it is a short read. I recommend this book for people who have read Radiance. "
— Kayla, 1/5/2014" It's readable but rather boring. Noel also kepps using the same dead puns. (Pun intended) "

— TARDIS, 12/11/2013" This was the most awesome book ever. To be honest, the book affected me deeply. I learnt how to let go of things and not let yourself trap in memories you would rather forget. It taught me to forgive and forget and move on! So thank you Alyson Noel :) "

— Tina, 5/16/2013" It was really good but it got a bit boring and it was a bit confusing. But i totally recomend the first book Radiance. It was amazing it was based on a girl that died and she explains her point of view and what its like. "
— Kelsey, 11/3/2012" See radiance for review, it's the same for this book. "
— Angela, 10/19/2012" I liked the first one, Radiance, better. It seems a little didactic and here's what heaven is like...thoughts. "

— Christine, 5/29/2011" I wish there would be a romantic relationship between Bodhi and Riley. This book was pointless. It was just another one of Riley's SHORT adventures. "
— Jennifer, 5/29/2011" This book was a fast and fun read. The characters were well written and while I still don't like the main character Riley I love her dog and her friend Budhi. The adventures are cool and i can't wait for dreamland. "
— Sydney, 5/28/2011" This book was also a quick read. Did not have much leading up to the plot, it did however leave me hanging a bit. Not enough to run out and buy the next one or sit on the edge of my seat waiting for it. "
— Tannis, 5/23/2011" LOVED IT!!!! It had some pretty disturbing moments but extremely well written. I wouldn't market it towards children definitely towards older teenager because of the content and the description of how some of the slaves died. The young girl recalling her death could frighten some!!! Great book!!! "
— Michelle, 5/1/2011" AWESOME!!!!!I can't wait for the thrid book!!! "
