Publisher Description

Considered by critics the one of the best of Agatha Christie’s later novels, and a personal favorite for Christie herself, Ordeal by Innocence is a psychological thriller involving crimes from both past and present.

According to the courts, Jacko Argyle bludgeoned his mother to death with a poker. The sentence was life imprisonment. But when Dr. Arthur Calgary arrives with the proof that confirms Jacko’s innocence, it is too late—Jacko died behind bars following a bout of pneumonia. Worse still, the doctor’s revelations reopen old wounds in the family, increasing the likelihood that the real murderer will strike again.

"Loved the little romantic ending in this book. It was a fun read, just not one of my absolute favorites. "

Quotes

  • “Family tensions and suspicions are adroitly handled, and the solution is characteristically surprising.”

" This could have used a little less conversation, a little more action. It's also heavy on the 1950's pop psychology of adoption and kids who were "born bad." I'm surprised this was one of Agatha Christie's personal favorites, but it was still a pleasant way to spend a few hours. "

" This book has neither Poirot or Marple in it. Characters for which Christie is famous. However it's still entertaining and there is quite a list of suspects in it. We get a glimpse into everyone's heads in this one. "
