"This book had a 'middle book' feel, as it didn't have a clear start or end that were distinct from the books before and after. However, it feels like a darker turn for the series. The journey through Maragor was genuinely creepy. The almost psychopathic glee most of the characters take in committing acts of murder also becomes somewhat chilling after a while. I get that fighting to the death is a staple of this sort of story, but they really seem to seek it out and enjoy it. I wasn't impressed with the chapters from Ce'Nedra's point of view, reading her from the outside I can forgive a lot as I fill in what I imagined to be her vulnerabilities as a scared teenage girl, but seeing 'inside' just shows her to be shallow and vacant, which was a pity. Given where she's supposed to be going, I would assume Eddings wants her to be a sympathetic character, but he hasn't written her well enough for that yet."

" I love this book! We meet Beldin "It rained on me a couple months ago." and Relg, the Ulgo zealot "I've had impure thoughts about women." Love love love! "
— ms, 2/19/2014" Read it as a teenager about 15 years ago for the first time and loved it then, so I decided to give it a go as an adult as well. It wasn't as brilliant as I thought back in the 90's but very readable for sure. "
— Anna, 2/13/2014" it was long and took me a long time o read. "
— Danni, 2/2/2014" I loved these books. I know that David Eddings wanted to make a point that history keeps repeating its self but I found that it bugged me a little bit. That is the only thing that I did not like all that much. The writing and stories are amazing and I will read this series over and over again. This series is right up there with the best. "

— Pavel, 7/24/2012" I liked this one except for two things: The Title (but that's minor), and that annoying character, Ce'Nedra! I'm really hoping she get's eaten at some point. Queen of the World? Seriously? "

— Bravepixels, 6/21/2011" This book was kind of hard to get through the first half. However, it did end up picking up its pace and becoming a more entertaining read after the first half or 2/3rds. It will probably be a while before i start the third book of this series though. "

— Tiffany, 12/4/2010" Read these when I was little. I loved them :) "
— Susan, 12/1/2010" I love this book. It has the old fashion adventure, humor, romance, and excitement. "
— Mary, 9/30/2010" Just couldn't get into it as much as I tried. There are some nice stretches and Eddings certainly devotes a lot of time/energy to creating his world, but I found it tediously redundant as the characters traveled from one waypoint to another.... "
— Henry, 9/16/2010" This series is an example of classic fantasy brought to the highest with Edding's gift of weaving a real world and its people into life. "
— Jennie, 8/27/2010" Starts out a little slow, but then becomes amazing. "
— Jen, 8/17/2010" Still a fun, quick read. Not the best fantasy ever, true, but it's not overly dense or full of itself either. "
— Matt, 7/19/2010" Not on the same lines as Feist or Brooks, but a very enjoyable read nonetheless. Classic epic fantasy. "
