Publisher Description

Warned by the prophecy that a new and greater danger threatens the lands of the west, Garion, Belgarath, and Polgara must begin another quest to save the lands from great evil.

Three years have passed since Garion's killing of the evil god Torak and his marriage to Ce'Nedra. He is now Overlord of the West, slowly learning how to cope with the duties of a king and to overcome the difficulties within his marriage.

When the Orb of Aldur warns Garion to "Beware Zandramas!" the Voice of Prophecy reveals that somewhere in the unknown land of the East the Dark Prophecy still exists and that great new dangers threaten.

While Belgarath and Garion seek to uncover the nature of this threat, Garion's baby son is kidnapped. All evidence points to the loathsome Bear-cult, which has gained power once more, and Garion leads an army bent on its destruction. But there are even more sinister forces at work, and Garion and his followers must look towards the malign and mysterious evil of Zandramas. Their quest must begin again.

"I've read the Belgariad series a few times, and finally just started the Malloreon. I like seeing all the familiar characters, and that they're off on another quest again. However, I've seen some reviews about how this series ends up being remarkably similar to the Belgariad, and I already get that sense from the first book, so it will be interesting to see if the series can hold my interest. I'm also starting to get a little annoyed at how every woman is considered in need of protection (including Polgara!), and not supposed to be on the frontlines anywhere, and that Ce'Nedra goes all hysterical, even after the events in the Belgariad where she showed she could hold her own and make big contributions. Eddings has powerful women in his books (especially Polgara and Porenn), but somehow it still seems like they're given short shrift."

" I haven't read the Malloreon series in the last 10 years. I remember I loved them back then, but this past decade has made me forget most of the books. Making a note for myself to re-read the series, and see if I still like it as much. After all, taste matures. I do hope it will enthrall me just as much, though. "

" Most of the book was petty banter between the characters with very little movement of the plot. If you are in the mood for it some of the chit-chat can be entertaining, but very little happens. This is a 5 book series so a fair amount of build-up is expected, however so far I have found the story simple and rather lackluster. Nevertheless, it is enjoyable to be following the familiar characters from the Belgariad so I'll probably continue and hope for some better twists and turns. "

" David Eddings really does know how to write a good fantasy book. We get the magic and the battles, the travels and the prophecy, but unlike so many other more pedestrian fantasy writers, there is also a lightness about the text. The text just flows and is fun. I'm so happy to have found him. "
