"I found this book at a garage sale- 50cents in my final year of high school and I instantly fell in love with it and tracked down the remaining of the series- a powerfully dark but also loving series of a family trying to just survive in a world that that is controlled by a twisted witch/high priestess who will destroy anything that gets or could get in her way. Three strong men who have seen more cruelty than love but are also the most powerful men in all the realms become unlikely allies in protecting Witch- dreams made flash and their savior- more powerful than the High Lord of Hell himself(one of the men who will protect her) - but she is only a child......"

" I was totally into this book!!! Amazing world! Dark, ominous, dangerous, and yet so vividly and skilfully depicted! "
— Aredhel, 2/18/2014" This was a really good book. It took a few chapters to get into, there were so many characters and this whole new world we were introduced to but then it settled down into main characters and it took off. It is one in a trilogy and i HAVE to get the next, they really left you hanging. Great read "
— Mary, 2/12/2014" It has been awhile since I've read straight dark fantasy. Usually I don't like stories too dark, but I enjoyed the characters and the interesting world that was explored. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. "
— Rachel, 2/2/2014" these books are extremely enjoyable despite their flaws. the characters are a bit stereotypical. sometimes it gets a little cheesy., but i came to love them and the series nonetheless. "
— Tabitha, 1/29/2014" LOVED this series...completely different and highly recommended by a friend with impeccable taste...a joy from start to end "
— Belinda, 1/24/2014" I love this series but not because I think the writing is perfect - Bishop leans heavily towards the florid and melodramatic but she has created a beautifully layered and complex world that makes up for the sillier stuff. Jaenelle will always be one of my favorite characters in fiction: an unusual blend of power and fragility that makes her awe-inspiring but endearing at the same time. Briarwood will haunt me forever (given that I don't read much horror, I may be biased but that is seriously one of the creepiest places ever created) and Papa Saetan is too cool to be a real dad but damn if you don't want to be part of his family anyways. "
— Sophia, 1/9/2014" It was good. Characters are well made. Reading the next book. "
— Swalsk, 12/24/2013" OMG, I LOVE this author!!!!! "
— MáirÃn, 12/19/2013" Complex world full of twists and turns. I loved it. "
— Crystal, 12/1/2013" I was not impressed with this book. I had a difficult time keeping track of the characters, their relationships and the area/country they were in and how they all related. "
— Beth, 11/29/2013" Wow, awesome, incredible, amazing. Words just aren't enough to describe such a wonderful work of fiction "
— Ashleigh, 11/8/2013" Excellent, if in parts a bit graphic "
— Jennie, 8/25/2013" It was okay, but I won't continue the series. "
— Ellison, 7/24/2013" A fascinating book. Pretty damn dark, especially towards the end. Very adult themes, but this author's universe is amazing. I look forward to reading the others. "
— Mae, 7/22/2013" the writing was just okay but I love the world building. "
— Chas., 6/21/2013" My fave set of books. If you love strong characters and strong plot line this is the book!!!! I LOVE this book!! "
— Kat, 5/4/2013" it tooke a very long time to get into this book as a lot of the story and the descriptions are very very thin, shallow and a bit boring. but as the story goes on it becomes more and more intriguing and actually worth reading. just stick to it!!! "
— Maria, 4/13/2013" Heavy exposition, but so worth it once it gets into the story. "
— Donna, 2/14/2013" My very favorite fantasy series. Always a good read - no matter how many times I've read it already (4 or 5 so far) "
— Annette, 1/19/2013" Not a book for everyone. Very dark, but the writing is superb. I loved it. "
— Sara, 12/22/2012" Complete and utter dreck. Addictive for the first read through, but like too much crappy chocolate it leaves you with a bit of a stomach ache. All I can say is that this is the most horribly melodramatic Mary Sue tale ever... at least for fantasy books containing massive amounts of sexual kink. "
— Jlynn, 9/20/2012" Wonderful book and great series... "
— James, 8/16/2012" This was the first fantasy book that I've read and I loved it. The world that Bishop creates, the jewel hierarchy, the main caracters of Daemon, Lucivar, Jaenelle, and so many others will remain in your head long after you read this book as well as the whole trilogy. "
— Diana, 5/26/2012" Když jsem poprvé knihu cetla, byla jsem naprosto unešená a pokaždé, když po ní znovu sáhnu, se ten pocit opakuje. Miluju ji!! :* "
— Moira, 6/26/2011" I was skeptical, but my daughter insisted I read these. They were actually very interesting! "
— Jodie, 6/3/2011" It was very well-written. Very brutal though - still, engrossing and enjoyable with little bits of light throughout. "
— Leah, 6/2/2011" This book was amazing! Anne Bishop is a phenomenal writer, pulling the reader in and making them a part of the story. "
— Abby, 6/2/2011" Could Daemon (Sadi) Sa Diablo be more sexy? "
— Niki, 5/31/2011" This is a fantastic series, especially if you are looking for something unique. I love this series and have reread it several times. Bishop does an incredible time crafting the characters and fully developing their personalities. "
— Maryann, 5/31/2011" Dark fantasy at its best. I love how Bishop has reversed a patriarchal society including all of the double-standards. Her world is vibrant and horrific all at the same time. "
— Bodagirl, 5/22/2011" Sexist, melodramatic, wish fulfillment trash. Oh can't forget about the stomach turning pedophilic overtones. Got about ten percent in and just couldn't take it anymore. I wish I could give this negative stars. "
— Amy, 5/14/2011" My favorite writer of all. Couldn't put the book down and couldnt wait to find the rest of the series. "
