Get ready for a smorgasbord of delicious suspense prepared by Goldy Bear, an irrepressible mistress of menus and amateur sleuth. Filled with a cast of colorful characters and superb recipes, Catering to Nobody is the first in a series that has made Diane Mott Davidson a best-selling author and the Queen of the Culinary Mystery. Goldy Bear, recently divorced, has made a home for herself and her young son in scenic Aspen Valley, Colorado. There, calls for Goldilock's Catering have been steady enough to pay the bills. But when a mourner is felled by rat poison during a funeral buffet Goldy is serving, the police quickly close her business. Now it's up to Goldy to find the rat who has tainted her food and her reputation. Diane Mott Davidson whips up a spicy mixture of cooks and crooks, and veteran narrator Barbara Rosenblat brilliantly conveys Goldy's intelligence, wit and energy. As the mystery unfolds, its tension is sweetened by delectable recipes, including Goldy's Dream Cake, Dungeon Bars, and Honey Ginger Snaps. Download and start listening now!

Listener Opinions

" I want to like this series (food, murder and a spunky heroine -- what's not to like?), and this is the first in the series. I've read some of the other ones, as these definitely do not have to be read in order. As I said, I *want* to like it, but at the end, it's just so-so. Entertaining, but bland. I think I'm looking for something... spicier, with bolder flavors. "

" another set of murder mysteries that are short and light reading. In this series, the main character is a caterer. There are recipes spread throughout each story. "

" Light, but predictible murder mystery. This one is the first in the series. If I based my opinion on just this book, I'd probably not read another one. However, from what I've read, they get better and better as the series progresses. I imagine I will read another one of these days. "

" Loved it! I didn't start with book one, so I had to do a lot of catch up work, but once I put them in order, I was cookin' with gas! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Sarah G. | 12/16/2013

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Stoli | 12/16/2013

" Rather weak, annoying main character with a child that makes me thank G** I'm never having kids. Mystery was okay, but with zero likable characters- the only one being killed off- I don't see picking up this series to read. Recipes included throughout was a nice touch to tie into the theme. "

" Cozy mysteries, indeed! I love Goldy and I love the recipes included in the book. When you read these, you almost feel like Goldy could be your next-door-neighbor. And you might like her for a neighbor if it wasn't for the fact that murder seems to always be around the corner when Goldy is around! "
