Growing up on Rainshadow, Charlotte Enright knew better than to ever go into the Preserve, until that one fateful night with Slade Attridge — a night neither of them would forget. Now, fifteen years later, both have returned to the island: Charlotte to take over her late aunt’s antiques shop and Slade to fill the police chief’s position. Able to read auras, Charlotte senses something amiss in Slade, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting him — again. That is, as long as his dust bunny “deputy” keeps his paws off her merchandise. Hiding a psi injury, Slade is afraid of his powerful desire for Charlotte. But a series of increasingly violent crimes draws them closer together — and into the darkness at the heart of the Preserve...

"I thought this was an excellent conclusion to this trilogy and that this book had more depth than the ususal Jayne Castles. It did end rather abruptly, opening up two new story lines with no word as to whether a future book will contain a continuation. "

" Set hundreds of years in the future on another planet, and yet you'd think theywere living in the San Juan Islands in present-day Washington. They drive SUVs, have cell phones, etc. But I did enjoy the next installment of the Arcane Society series. "
— Erin, 1/18/2014" I love this series and the fact that she moves it between three of her pen names. When we are traveling I take a break and read pretty much anything I can get my hands on. "
— Angela, 1/14/2014" Always quick books for me, and enjoyable. I am always intrigued by the different psychic talents JAK endows in her characters in the Arcane books. "
— Ann, 1/11/2014" This was ok. I like her writing as Jayne Ann Krentz much more than as Jayne Castle. I love the dust bunnies in the books, but this one read as much more of a love story than any great mystery. Also, I didn't see it as having much connection to the other two books in the trilogy. "
— Kristin, 11/22/2013" I liked it. I think the paranormal ones are really the best in this series. However, I wanted to find out what was on the reserve. "
— Tara, 11/16/2013" Excellent series I am enjoying all of these books that are part of The arcane society and harmony books "
— Doris, 11/10/2013" Might have been better if I'd started at the beginning of the series..library loan "
— Dreamer, 10/11/2013" I liked the two main characters Charlotte and Slade, and the Rainshadow setting was interesting. Krentz spent a lot of time building up the island setting and the Rainshadow Preserve to the point where the regular mystery seemed neglected. "
— Nicole, 9/4/2013" Not much of a story, and felt the ending was rather quick. "
— Deanne, 5/1/2013" I just love Jayne Castle, Krentz, etc. books!!! I love her heroes and the slightly kookie characters. This one did not disappoint. I love dust bunnies as well and this one was great. "
— Virginia, 4/11/2013" I have read this author for over twenty years, she continues to please with humor and great characters. "
— Rhonda, 1/13/2013" I really enjoyed this trip back to Harmony. It was a great story with lots of intrigue. Definitly a keeper. "
— dragonsdy, 1/9/2013" I really liked this book, though I'm not sure if its because a young crush grew into love, or if the hero was just that impressive. This book added a few scales to my hotness meter! "
— Lizzie, 10/29/2012" Very good introduction to Shadow Bay/Rainshadow Island books. This reminds me of the Eclipe Bay trilogy, just set on another planet. "
— Kay, 8/25/2012" I totally love Jayne Castle (aka Jayne Ann Krentz). Her books are a must buy for me. I loved the whodunit in this one because I totally didn't see it coming. "
— Beth, 6/13/2012" definitely a good addition to both the arcane series and the Harmony series. I was thoroughly enchanted through every page and i cannot wait to see what comes next!! "
— Michelle, 2/23/2012" Love these books, but felt this could have been a contemporary not Harmony book, as those elements really receded to the back. "
— Sarah.W, 2/19/2012" Nice follow up to the Looking Glass Trilogy. Enjoyed the story. "
— Evelyn, 11/20/2011" This was ok. I like her writing as Jayne Ann Krentz much more than as Jayne Castle. I love the dust bunnies in the books, but this one read as much more of a love story than any great mystery. Also, I didn't see it as having much connection to the other two books in the trilogy. "
— Kristin, 10/26/2011" Always love reading her books, one of my top comfort authors. Love the background of H/h knowing each others when younger; always a winning premise. Fun quick read "
— Julie, 10/24/2011" OK story by Jayne Castle. Characters sweet, hero hunky, a little romance, a little intrigue. No meat, predictable, but cozy. "
— Jeri, 10/7/2011" this is the first book I have read by Jayne Castle, love her as Krentz and Quick.
It was 3rd in a trilogy begun with her historical and then modern day series so that
was fun. "
— Jeanne, 10/5/2011" I love these books but this one was definitely just a setup for the next one to come. Too much about the couple and not enough story line. The stroy seemed to be an after thought, squeezed into the last 2 chapters . "
— Kerrie, 10/3/2011" I listened to the audio of this one, it was a good listen with a basic JAK plot. I don't get tired of them. "
— Gamatst, 9/27/2011" Great Addition to the series and also a jumping off book for future books set on Harmony,. "
— Jo, 9/23/2011" I just love Jayne Castle, Krentz, etc. books!!! I love her heroes and the slightly kookie characters. This one did not disappoint. I love dust bunnies as well and this one was great. "
— Virginia, 9/22/2011" I like the series...Jayne Castle (Jayne Krentz, Amanda Quick) is the futuristic writer. I think I might be reading more of her stuff, I really enjoy the Arcane society series...I really hope there will be some more. "
— Ginger, 9/20/2011" Same thing as pretty much every Arcane novel she's written. It had some positive points, but I think I've simply read too many of her books and becoming quite bored by her formula.

2/5, full review to follow. "
— Jess, 9/16/2011" Pretty good. Adam and Malrowe made an appearance in the book. Slade and Charottle remind of them sometime. especially the bond that rex and Slade share. "
