Publisher Description

Unabridged ? 10 hours Jen Lancaster hates to burst your happy little bubble, but life in the big city isn't all it's cracked up to be. Contrary to what you see on TV and in the movies, most urbanites aren't party-hopping in slinky dresses and strappy stilettos. But lucky for us, Lancaster knows how to make the life of the lower crust mercilessly funny and infinitely entertaining.

"Ok, seriously, Jen Lancaster is so hilarious and this one is no exception. Yes, living in the big city sometimes does suck and Sex and the City really is full of lies. It's cool that Lancaster knows that and acknowledges it in no uncertain terms. Because I live in Chicago (for another three weeks), I could totally relate to everything she wrote about it. Her chapter on the public transit alone is so accurate it's eerie and quite hilarious. While this one didn't contain nearly as many laugh-out-loud moments as some of her other memoirs, it had enough good material in there to make it worth my time. A word to the wise, though, if you haven't liked her previous books, I don't think this one will convert you. She's definitely an acquired taste. A fun, quick read. There's a reason why Jen Lancaster has become my new best friend!!"

" Love the book, love her writing, love her humor. Chances are we wouldn't be friends in real life but how many authors would you be? That has no bearing on how funny it is. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is she loooves those footnotes. They can be funny comments but they are annoying. Especially keeping them straight when there's several on one page. There isn't a lot of 'plot' in this one but I did feel it with her when she saw her book in a store the first time. She's not one to show actual humanity a lot and it was a very personal moment. "

" I enjoyed this book, less than Such a Pretty Fat. Maybe I like that Such a Pretty Fat was more a story and not so much essays like this book. I also refuse to live in a big city, so maybe it just wasn't as easy to relate to... "

" Absolutely hilarious. I found myself sitting in a waiting room with shoulders shaking and tears running down my face trying not to laugh out loud and make an utter fool of myself while reading the chapter on going to the Gynocologist. I've never done that in my life! Big downside, however, Ms. Lancaster has a filthy mouth, and uses it freely throughout the book. (One page alone can drop 4 F-bombs.) Kind of ruins the fun. "
