A NOTE FROM JEN LANCASTER:"To whom the fat rolls…I'm tired of books where a self-loathing heroine is teased to the point where she starves herself skinny in hopes of a fabulous new life. And I hate the message that women can't possibly be happy until we all fit into our skinny jeans. I don't find these stories uplifting; they make me want to hug these women and take them out for fizzy champagne drinks and cheesecake and explain to them that until they figure out their insides, their outsides don't matter. Unfortunately, being overweight isn't simply a societal issue that can be fixed with a dose healthy of positive self-esteem. It’s a health matter, and here on the eve of my fortieth year, I've learned I have to make changes so I don't, you know, die. Because what good is finally being able to afford a pedicure if I lose a foot to adult onset diabetes?"

"Holy Crap!!!! I absolutely loved this book. My husband said he had never heard me laugh out loud while reading a book before. Jen Lancaster is a cure for the closet b****!! Sometimes you just need to let it out. Loved how snarky she could be and that she would speak her mind. Loved the banter between her and Fletch. Can't wait to read "Pretty in Plaid"!"

" Lancaster's droll sense of humor is evident in this humorous and contemporary look at a woman and her life long love/hate relationship with food; and the challenges that causes. "
— Pat, 2/17/2014" Wound up listening to most of this on audiobook while travelling with my wife, and I'm taking credit for it. I think she's compared to Sedaris, as this book uses the comedic memoir format, with the benefit of having an encompassing story arc of sorts. Bonus props for being set in Chicago, one of my favorite homes away from home. I should give it more stars, but if you're looking at the rest of my reading and agree with it, I wouldn't want you to mislead you; this was pure guilty pleasure and part research on comedic writing. "
— Chris, 2/9/2014" This might be my favorite of Jen Lancaster's memoirs. I've read or listened to all. This was an easy and fun read. Reading her books makes me want to hang out with Lancaster while drinking wine and watching Bravo. "
— Beth, 2/8/2014" Took more than one sitting to read this book. The author spent too much time debating on whether or not she was even going to write the book, so it should probably have been more about wrestling with that idea rather than the idea of changing her life-style and getting in shape. Very focused on herself, which is what I suppose a memoir is about, but not a lot of insight as to getting motivated and staying that way. "

— Maria, 11/22/2013" I liked this book better than Lancaster's first book. I think her self-deprecating humor won me over by this volume. I like her style...she's tough and not afraid to be mean to herself or others. I like that. :D "

— Jennifer, 4/27/2011" Didn't think it could get funnier than than Bitter is the New Black, but it was...especially if you have ever tried to shed a few pounds yourself! "
— Vicki, 4/27/2011" Jen Lancaster is one of the best comedic writers I have come across in this genre in so many years. You will laugh out loud throughout the entire book. "
— Lauren, 4/20/2011" This was a fun, light read. The author is funny and i'll probably check out her other books. In my opinion, though, there were way too many footnotes. I found it distracting. But not so distracting that i won't read the other books. "
