" This is the first 5 star rating I have given this series. This book did a better job of connecting with the characters. I haven't really felt this connected to Raphael. I guess because Raphael is still somewhat a mystery. The readers don't get to see much into his past other than the fact that his mother killed his father and that he then tried to kill her and failed. Always afraid that he will go insane like his parents but I feel we still don't get much emotion with Raphael, but with Dmitri we get all the emotion with his family history of wife and children. We get to see a side of him that softens us to the hard man/vampire that he has become. The turn of events were a pleasant surprise that was written well without making it too fantastical. I find it more of a subtle flow of events that hinted at what was going on, so when the truth was revealed it wasn't a shock. It made it seem more natural for the story. Sometimes a shocking ending is not what is needed in a book, so I think this ending was well done for the reader's pleasure! "
