Stephanie Laurens authors USA Today best-selling historical romance novels such as Devil's Bride. Exciting and deeply sensuous, A Rake's Vow continues the Bar Cynster series. Unlike his brothers, Vane Cynster vows to never marry. The eligible women of London have different plans for him, however. Seeking safety at Bellamy Hall, the residence of his eccentric godmother, Vane doesn't expect to meet any new unmarried women. But upon his arrival, he encounters the voluptuous Patience Debbington in the garden. When their gazes meet for the first time, she is filled with a sensation that leaves her quivering. Thoroughly overwhelmed, Vane realizes that he has never met a woman quite like Patience Debbington. As Vane's seductions prove more and more irresistible, Patience's oath to never open herself to heartache may soon be broken. Simon Prebble narrates this tale with the intuitive boldness and sensitivity of a true master.

"This is Spencer "Vane" Cynster and Patience Debbington's story. This story is a little different from the previous book and as such takes some turns that aren't excepted. I do like that a storm drives Vane to find Patience. I liked Vane in Devil's Bride. He is a definite alpha male that isn't really looking for a wife but knows that fate may have other plans. Patience was a nice change of pace. She is independent, intelligent and willing to go after those things that she is curious about. While she is ahead of her time she is a little paranoid but Vane. I enjoyed Vane's godmother and her varied and eccentric household. Ms. Laurens does a very good job of giving each individual a distinct personality. She also does a very good job of keeping the bad guys a mystery. It was amusing that Vane had to work at convincing Patience to marry him. I really think that he was beyond put out when she first turned him down. This was an enjoyable story and a very good addition to the series. I look forward to the next book."

" As expected, a wonderful good book with great characters! Again, Stephanie Laurens had not seem to fail me at all in her books. I'm expectation of great characters, lovable relationship and developments, and nonetheless the word plays of the Cynster are definitely a joy-candy of delight for me! A must read for any SL fans!! "
— Lee, 2/19/2014" Slowly moving through the Cynster line. Very light entertainment reading. "
— Rachelle, 2/19/2014" 3 stars. The characters need more work.. "
— Marianna, 2/15/2014" While I liked Vane, and I did not dislike Patience, something was just missing from this story. The mystery was no big mystery at all and I don't understand (view spoiler)[ why the culprits, when caught, were not going to be thrown out or punished ??? (hide spoiler)] It was also about 100 pages too long. It was however nice to see Devil and Honoria with their baby. "
— Denise, 1/31/2014" One of the best books I've read! "
— Amadeja, 1/10/2014" I didn't like this one as much as Devil's Bride. I still liked it, but it didn't grab me the way Devil/Honoria did. I am still going to continue with the series though. "
— Sassafrass, 1/1/2014" I never thought I would complain about a book being to long, but this one seemed to go on forever. Not much of a mystery and I was so ready tone finished with this book! "
— Elaine, 11/27/2013" Another Stephanie Laurens that I read years ago. I plan on listening to it and enjoying it all over again in audio format. "
— Gamatst, 11/21/2013" This was a good book, but basic. It's definitely formula historical romance. The sex scenes get a little monotonous, too...I skipped over some of them. I do plan to continue reading the series, though, so all in all it had to be somewhat entertaining! "
— Sugar, 10/12/2013" 4.5 stars. Really enjoyed the characters, the romance and the overall story, but the sex scenes often have the purplest prose. "
— Tara, 7/27/2013" Liked this book the play between Patience and Vane was really good. I mean of course all the eligible men at the house would be chasing her she's the ONLY eligible woman around that is attractive of course... I mean it's no brainer "
— Stephanie, 6/16/2013" Another historical time period fiction, but this one had a better mystery on top of it. "
— Aimee, 1/17/2013" I got tired by the end of this book and skimmed the last 50 pages. Neither Vane nor Patience stood out for me as anyone special or likeable. "
— Lesley, 9/15/2012" I found this book lacking compared to the first book. The starting bore me to tears, and I ended up skipping to chapter 13, which then became more entertaining. But I still didn't find the book good. So 3 stars. "
— Eva-chan, 8/4/2012" Excellent read. All of Stephanie's work is fantastic and intertwined with other elements of mystery. "
— Suzan, 7/13/2012" I am a biggie for Judith McNaught style romances based in the eras of the Earls and Duke's. But a Rake's vow was disappointing. It didnt manage to carry of the charm and magic which make historical romances so endearing "
— Hitesha, 3/26/2012" Good book. Liked the hero, Vane, better than the hero in the first book. "
— Janna, 5/9/2011" I couldn't finish this. I couldn't get a quarter of the way through it. Tedious prose, unlikable heroine, and a large cast of minor characters I have no reason to care about. The hero, Vane, seemed decent, but he couldn't pull this one out of the quagmire by himself. "
— Elizabeth, 2/15/2011" I got tired by the end of this book and skimmed the last 50 pages. Neither Vane nor Patience stood out for me as anyone special or likeable. "
— Lesley, 12/14/2010" I was kind of bored by this one. The hero and heroine are vacationing in an English country home. They're brought together as they attempt to discover who stole Aunt Minnie's pearls. Sigh. "
— jen8998, 5/30/2010" I didn't like this one as much as Devil's Bride. I still liked it, but it didn't grab me the way Devil/Honoria did. I am still going to continue with the series though. "
— Sassafrass, 3/4/2010" Good book. Liked the hero, Vane, better than the hero in the first book. "
— Janna, 2/7/2010" I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the interplay between Vane and Patience. There's a mystery thrown in, with very easily guessed villains. Even with that, I still recommend this book. "
— Carolyn, 1/18/2010" Another Stephanie Laurens that I read years ago. I plan on listening to it and enjoying it all over again in audio format. "
