Publisher Description

In 1985, thirty-two-year-old David Brown seemed to have it all. A computer genius with a million-dollar business, married for the fifth time—most recently to a twenty-three-year-old beauty, Linda, the mother of his newborn baby—he was the living embodiment of a rich playboy. But the signs of the dream life’s dark underside were already emerging—especially in Brown’s penchant for divorcing his young wives as soon as they matured to full womanhood.

The darkness came into full, violent bloom the night Linda was found shot to death in her own bed. Shockingly, Brown’s fourteen-year-old stepdaughter Cinnamon confessed, earning a prison sentence for the murder in a case that rocked California’s Orange County community. But even after the verdict was in, officials in the District Attorney’s office suspected that all the facts were yet to be revealed. What their further investigations uncovered was a trail of lechery, deceit, and betrayal—a trail that began and ended with David Brown.

Filled with horrifying findings from the author’s exclusive access to the details of the investigation, If You Really Loved Me is Ann Rule’s most compelling work yet—a chilling true crime masterpiece!

"This is one of the first books I ever read by Ann Rule. It was on the reccomendation of a friend. Ann has a way with words that won't allow you to stop at the end of any given chapter. She drives you into the next, then the next until you've finished. Then you're sorry you've reached the final page."

" A very interesting tale of manipulation and murder within a family. Not her best work (look to "A Stranger Beside Me" or "Green River, Running Red" for that), but I always a good tale of true crime when Ann Rule writes it. "

" Based on a true story (most of Ann Rules book are), disturbing what a man will put his daughter through because of how much she loves him. This was made into a movie. I love the photos in the middle of the book, you can see what the real life characters looked like! "

" millionare dad asks daughter to kill. cinnamon obliges. i do feel sorry for her as i do anyone who has such an awful dad but the "poor, innocent cinnamon" theme is a little overdone. the story is very interesting and fascinating on many levels. makes you ponder the fathers some people have. " I dragged through this book, part of me wonders if it is because it was a collection of short stories. I found the history of forensics from the 1950s to present day interesting. I had no idea about how cold cases were handled. I could see myself reading more Ann Rule books, but perhaps they will be full length studies as opposed to short stories. "

" This was an interesting true crime story about a girl who was arrested and charged with the murder of her stepmother, but it appeared that her father orchestrated it and her stepsister may have committed it so that after the girl committed it, the stepsister and father could be together. At least that's how I think it happened . . . years after she was in jail, the detectives finally got her to fess up and jailed the father. Interesting bit of detective/police work and the father was just gross. nice decadent book to indulge in. "
