Eragon and Saphira have been through a lot together. She a dragon and he a dragon rider, they have been together since she chose to hatch from an egg and bond with him. Now, along with Eragon's cousin Roran, they are setting out to avenge the death of Roran's father, the man who raised Eragon, and rid the world of a horrible blight in Brisingr: The Inheritance Cycle, Book 3.
The Ra'zac are foul creatures who bring nothing but death and decay. The larvae of a horrible species, they ride on the backs of their disgusting parents, bringing terror and havoc throughout the land. They killed the man who raised Eragon and Roran, and now they have captured Roran's beloved, Katrina. The two cousins are not happy with this state of affairs, to say the least, and are not at all sad that they must kill one of the Ra'zac in order to free Katrina. As Eragon is meting out justice on the Ra'zac, it tells him a curious thing- that Galbatorix, the evil emperor, has discovered 'the name of all names.' He does not know what this means and, thinking that it is merely a ploy to buy the creature a prolonged life, proceeds with killing it.
After rescuing Katrina, the cousins return to the Varden, where Eragon discovers that Katrina is pregnant with Roran's child. The joy is short lived, however, as after a hastily arranged marriage, Eragon must once again return to focusing on defeating the emperor. If only he can find out the significance of the clue the Ra'zac offered, he may finally have a way to win this horrible war.
Christopher Paolini is an American author who began writing while still in high school. He published his first book, Eragon, at the age of 19, and subsequently signed a contract with Knopf to continue the Inheritance cycle. He is now the author of four bestselling books, one of which was the inspiration for a blockbuster film. Paolini now lives in Los Angeles, California, and says he is taking a break from writing.
"I did end up crying when I read this book. Now I really didn't like the first few pages in this book just because of the bloody ritual they did but I would read this book a hundred times more and just skip that part. "
