James Brendan Patterson, Jr., born on March 22, 1947, in Newburgh, New York, is an American philanthropist and one of the world's bestselling authors. He is a unique storyteller with a writing style that takes the mind of a reader on a rollercoaster.
James Patterson is best known for his captivating fictional characters and thriller series. Some of his bestselling books and series include the Women's Murder Club series, the Michael Bennett series, the Maximum Ride series, Witch and Wizard, the Middle School series, the hilarious I Funny series, and Jacky Ha-Ha. And his books are loved by both the young and adults.
Patterson believes that everyone loves to read, and anyone who doesn't has probably not found the right book, which is why his entire writing career has been focused on not just books for adults, but also books for school kids.
As a philanthropist, Paterson has given to teachers, universities, colleges, bookstores, school libraries, and students as his way of encouraging all people to read more books. He established the James Patterson Pledge with Scholastic Book Clubs in 2015 to put books in the hands of young readers. And since then, Patterson has donated over 2 million books to school kids and more than 40 million dollars for education support. He has also given thousands of college scholarships for teachers.
Patterson is a full-time writer, living in Palm Beach, Florida with his wife Susan (Sue), and son, Jack. He received a Literarian Award from the National Book Foundation for his passionate support in making books and reading a significant necessity, as well as his outstanding service to the American Literary Community. He has also received numerous Emmy Awards as well as an Edgar Award.
