Blown helplessly off course by a sudden gale, 14-year-old Andy Galloway is washed ashore on Admiralty Island, an immense wilderness known as the "Fortress of the Bears." As he struggles to survive, Andy discovers an unlikely ally in a large dog running with a pack of wolves. The dog leads Andy to food-but also to the strange cave of a mysterious, and almost certainly dangerous, hermit. The award-winning author of Far North captures all the beauty and danger of Alaska in this exciting story of survival and discovery.

"In an effort to read more of the authors introduced in my YA lit class this spring, I read Wild Man Island. If you can get past the rather sensational cover, the story was good. Very interesting and a fast read. Definitely a book to recommend to a teen or pre-teen boy. "
