Publisher Description

Fans of Sarah J. Maas and Holly Black won’t be able to resist the world of Melissa Marr's #1 New York Times bestselling series, full of faerie intrigue, mortal love, and courtly betrayal.

Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.

Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty—especially if they learn of her Sight—and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.

Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.

Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.

But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost—regardless of her plans or desires.

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom, her best friend Seth, her life—everything.

"I'm absolutely obsessed with fairies. You can ask my husband. So of course I really enjoyed this book. And it's rare to find a series about fey. I have only found 3. This one, the need series, and the iron fey series. So if you love fairies as much as me you should check out the other 2 series."

Quotes

  • “A debut that reads like the work of a seasoned pro.”

    — Charles de Lint, author of The Onion Girl
  • “Melissa Marr adds elegantly to the sub-genre of Urban Faery with this enticing, well-researched fantasy for teens…Marr creates a fully realized world…[Her] lyrical language and sensual imagery capture both the confused emotions and the physicality of adolescence.”

    — Washington Post
  • “Marr’s faerie world Marr is a fascinating mixture of the ancient and the modern. The story translates beautifully to audio, and narrator Alyssa Bresnahan is pitch-perfect in her delivery. The sexual tension is subtle but makes the story more appropriate for older listeners. Recommend this intriguing fantasy romance to fans of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series.”

    — School Library Journal
  • “Enjoyably sultry.”

    — Kirkus Reviews
  • “As the full extent of Aislinn’s circumstances is revealed, readers will be hooked by her tale and surely pick up the next book.”

" It was decent for most of the way through. I read it pretty quickly and enjoyed the whole concept. It was very similar to The Fever Series but not nearly as good. I wasn't thrilled with the whole ending and am not rushing out to dive into the next one but for a lazy summer day it was a fun read. "
