Three sips to mind the dead . . .
Rebekkah Barrow never forgot the attention her grandmother Maylene bestowed upon the dead of Claysville, the small town where Bek spent her adolescence. There wasn't a funeral that Maylene didn't attend, and at each one Rebekkah watched as Maylene performed the same unusual ritual: She took three sips from a silver flask and spoke the words ""Sleep well, and stay where I put you.""
Now Maylene is dead, and Bek must go back to the place she left a decade earlier. She soon discovers that Claysville is not just the sleepy town she remembers, and that Maylene had good reason for her odd traditions. It turns out that in Claysville the worlds of the living and the dead are dangerously connected; beneath the town lies a shadowy, lawless land ruled by the enigmatic Charles, aka Mr. D. If the dead are not properly cared for, they will come back to satiate themselves with food, drink, and stories from the land of the living. Only the Graveminder, by tradition a Barrow woman, and her Undertaker—in this case Byron Montgomery, with whom Bek shares a complicated past—can set things right once the dead begin to walk.
Although she is still grieving for Maylene, Rebekkah will soon find that she has more than a funeral to attend to in Claysville, and that what awaits her may be far worse: dark secrets, a centuries-old bargain, a romance that still haunts her, and a frightening new responsibility—to stop a monster and put the dead to rest where they belong.

"I loved this book. The heroine is a "chosen one", the small town she returns to has a secret, there is an issue with dead people, and she works together with the town's undertaker. It's a little bit Buffy-esque, but I think that is a good thing. The book went by too quickly despite my efforts to pace myself. I just had to find out what was going on and couldn't stop reading."

— Catherine, 2/9/2014" More about coming to terms with your role in life, rather than the Underworld. "
— Tiffany, 12/16/2013" I could write a very long review about this book and why I enjoyed it so much but I won't. Melissa Marr's writting, her characters, the worlds she creates...are just breathtaking. Once again, she doesn't fail to deliver. Her books aren't for everyone that's for sure but they sure are just what I like in a book. "
— Marie, 12/10/2013" Good ending, slow book. "
— Bethany, 11/26/2013" Definitely different... not quite believable. Felt like the end was rushed. "

— Patt, 10/10/2013" Thoroughly entertaining! Kind of a cheap thrill. I wasn't blown away by it and it isn't an all-time favorite but I really did enjoy reading it. I would recommend it to my friends. It reminded me of a Dean Koontz book... "
— Angela, 9/4/2013" This was a 4.5 I really liked it alot. "
— Beverly, 8/25/2013" Good book, although...I really wish the character development would have continued a little stronger to the end. I would be excited to read more in this series (if she were to make it a series, lol). "

— Amanda, 9/17/2012" Really 3.5 - I thought it was a very creative premise. The ebook version, at least, could have benefited from some editing. Lots of mistakes, and I found it distracting. "
— Ashley, 9/2/2012" I didn't love this book. I wanted to, but it was just too predictable for me. I like the idea of the storyline and I liked the characters, but I felt like I could have wrote it myself. "
— Carla, 2/25/2012" Got bored half way through, and frustrated as to why Marr would wait until the second half of a novel to get into the interesting stuff about the dead. I mean, the book is called 'Graveminder' - not 'My Angsty Relationship With The Boy Next Door'. Disappointed. "
— Jen, 2/20/2012" I loved this book. The idea is fascinating and the characters are believable. I can't wait for the next one! "
— Melissa, 10/31/2011" I felt the book had a strong start but kinda petered out by the end. "
— Dawn, 9/10/2011" Super book! Love Melissa Marr!! Having read and loved the Wicked Lovely series I hope to see more of Rebekkah and Byron. "
