Faery Tales & Nightmares is an anthology of short stories by Melissa Marr, many set in the world of her Wicked Lovely series. Marr revisits favorite fan characters such as faeries Niall and Irial, and introduces fascinating new beings, including a vampire, a pair of selchie brothers, and a goblin. The strange creatures can appear anywhere, coming from the sea, from the woods, from inside storms; they may come seeking to bring destruction or to find a passionate encounter… Lush, seductive, and chilling, the stories in Melissa Marr’s Faery Tales & Nightmares blend fairy tales and folklore, horror and fantasy, and allow us to revel in the unseen magic that infuses the world as we know it.

"Because i have not read the wicked lovely series, some of the stories in here did not make as much sense to me as they would to someone who has read the series. I was still able to figure it out though, and the stories were as exciting as any book would be. I loved the story about the selchie!"

“Simple but lyrical language, resourceful female protagonists, and a mixed bag of supernatural delights should hold an allure for fans and newcomers alike.”
— Publishers Weekly“All of the stories [in Faery Tales & Nightmares] are about characters looking for love on their own terms, and that’s something any teen can relate to.”

— Renee, 2/19/2014" ohmigosh I loved this collection. It makes me sad that this is truly the end of the wicked lovely series though. Oh how i wish that series would go on forever. "
— JayLa~♪, 2/8/2014" I'm really glad I read to learn how people's stories ended in Wicked Lovely. I also liked the happy stories. But some of the "nightmares" were totally unnecessary. "
— Lynae, 2/1/2014" Really good, I'm glad that this was written it was all the between stories of what happened that wasnt in the novels. The short stories were amazing I loved them all. "
— StepHaniE, 1/26/2014" Loved these short stories. Marr is a wonderful story teller and I loved the Wicked series short stories. Love me some Niall and Irial most of all. These stories are magical and full bodied. I would not mind them being turned into full stories. "
— Lawren, 1/8/2014" I liked this book, although in parts the stories would end just as the storyline had you hooked "
— Kelly, 11/3/2013" This is actually a 3.6, so I rounded up. I really liked the short stories, but actually would have preferred fewer Wicked Lovely characters. I wanted more bredth. "
— Sarah, 10/25/2013" I was thrilled to finally this book. I love short stories and it was great to see some of the loose ends from the Wicked Lovely series tied up. Must read! "
— K., 10/12/2013" Honestly, I would give this book 2.5 stars. Not terribly impressive writing but it was fun reading the shorts associated with the Wicked Lovely series. "
— Suzanne, 3/19/2013" About half the book was supporting short stories to Wicked Lovely and those made the book for me. The other short stories were ok but the Wicked Lovely stories were why I finished it. The Seth/Niall story (Unexpected Family) was my favorite with Old Habits a close second. "
— Katherine, 11/27/2012" good supplement to wicked lovely series. Provides some stories after the last book... "
— Dmbets, 11/9/2012" it was pretty good, it gives a few short stories and some inside looks at familiar authors that capture our creative interests. There are some that i wished would be turned into stories or that they'd continue on a few more pages. Enjoy! "
— Krystal, 6/13/2012" nice mix of Wicked Lovely shorts (mid and post-series) and stand-alone short stories that packed a punch. "
— Shilo, 3/21/2012Melissa Marr grew up believing in faeries, ghosts, and various other creatures. After teaching college literature for a decade, she applied her fascination with folklore to writing. Wicked Lovely was her first novel. Currently, Marr lives in the Washington, DC, area, writes full-time, and still believes in faeries and ghosts.
