"This was one of the early Briggs books I picked up. I detested the cover, which just goes to show you should never judge a book by it's outsides. (the cover is accurate in the girl climbs a rope ladder to escape a wave, but that is about it.) The story weaves revenge, honor, politics, and magic together beautifully. The main character is funny, smart, and generous with her ability to surprise. I thoroughly enjoy this book every time I pick it up for a read."

" It would have gotten 5 stars but I felt the ending was lacking something *shrug* For the most part was a page turner and had me giggling plenty. If you've read the other books you'll notice a rather large gap time wise, without a whole lot of explaining how things got the way they are. But I was able to shrug it off and just enjoy the story anyhow. "
— Wynne, 2/12/2014" This was a fast read. Briggs wrote this story with no padding. I would like to see more of Sham in another book. It's a bit of mystery and she is very clever about revealing the clues as she builds the world and the characters. The tension between the two main characters is finely done as well. "
— Joni, 2/12/2014" Wow. Patricia Briggs has done it again. This story has all the homeyness and personality I have found in her other series. I've fallen in love with Sham and Kerim and am desperately hoping that Briggs will consider another installment. "
— Kathy, 2/6/2014" Great book. Sometimes it goes a bit slow, but they are needed to help complete the story. It's worth the read ... "
— Tricia, 1/29/2014" Full of action, a little mystery, and a little romance. A well worth while read. "
— Haley, 1/26/2014" I loved this book Sham was great ! I thought this was much better than the other book I read by Patricia Briggs Bone Crossed , everyone seems to like that series though . This was deff better for me and I want the other ones in this series . (: "

— Karilee, 12/31/2013" It started off a bit slowly, then picked up. But it waned again. Not her best work, but it wasn't too bad. It was a good bus book. "
— Min, 11/19/2013" I really enjoyed this book. Sham and Kerim were great characters. Also, I was not able to figure out who the demon was until Sham figured it out in the book. I like books that keep me guessing! "
— Gaynell, 10/23/2013" Slow beginning, but worth making it through to really get into the story. "
— Heather, 10/21/2013" I just love Patricia Briggs! "
— Vicki, 9/16/2013" I like this one too. It was a fun story but had some gross things. "
— Ashley, 5/30/2013" I thought Steal the Dragon was good, until I read this one. The main character is so capable and likeable it's hard not to get caught up in it. This was a fantastic read. "
— Wendy, 5/15/2013" Another excellent book written by an exceptional author! "
— Victoria, 4/22/2013" It was a good read even though I got distracted. I love the world. I can't wait for more! "
— Erin, 4/1/2013" Loved the story but not sure I would classify it as Romance. "
— Vleigh, 2/26/2013" One of Briggs's earlier books, and perhaps not as sure-handed as her later ones. Still very enjoyable, though. "
— Lian, 2/15/2013" I liked the characters. Her writing has gotten stronger over time. "
— Jean, 10/25/2012" Interesting concept, not as interesting as the Mercy series, but this one did come before "
— Sheri, 9/8/2012" Another great read from Patricia Briggs. I had a hard time putting it down. "
— Linda, 8/31/2012" In a land where magic has been banned, a young, half-trained mage girl makes her living as a thief since her city has fallen to an enemy army. Now the army's chief commander's life lies in her hands, as she is the only one left who can find and stop the mage trying to assassinate him. "
— Lori, 6/4/2012" Very good book, typically one of those books that left me a taste of moreish when I finished it! There could have been so much more to be told in this story :) "
