Publisher Description

The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen, and the living are under attack.

In a future world under attack from the undead, the powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Consequently, there are many false claims of hauntings from those hoping to profit. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully-tattooed witch and freewheeling ghost hunter. She's got a real talent for nailing human liars and banishing the wicked dead. But she's keeping a dark secret from the Church: a little drug problem that's landed her in hot water.

Chess owes a lot of money to a dangerous drug lord who wants immediate payback. All Chess has to do is dispatch a very nasty species of undead from an old airport. But the job involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and crossing swords with enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in a dangerous attraction to the drug lord's ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah.

"This was a really good book . New author for me. Action packed from beginning to end. The book kept flowing with something going on and you couldn't help but like the characters and look forward to seeing what happened next. This was no typical Ghost that was for sure or the friendship's she made with some rough characters but the book did give me several laughs."

    — Charlaine Harris, New York Times bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse novels
  • “In Unholy Ghosts, Stacia Kane has penned the ultimate bible of badassery. This is a black diamond of an urban fantasy, fierce and darkly satisfying as running on a storm-lashed shore.”

    — Ann Aguirre, national bestselling author of Blue Diablo and Doubleblind
  • “[A] dark futuristic urban fantasy…atmospheric and well written.”

    — Publishers Weekly
  • “Unholy Ghosts is a wonderful, weird, wild tale filled with gritty magic, punk rock and macabre spirits. Kane’s world is dark, dangerous and haunted, populated by hustlers, junkies and exorcists…and you’ll never want to leave. Simply the best book I’ve read this year.”

" 4+ Wow, what a thrill ride. Great world building and unusual protagonists. Definitely more edgy then any of the PNR with romance that I've read. Still, I'm surprised that I haven't come across more discussion of this series because, at least so far, it's well done and fun to read. "

" This book takes the flawed hero theme to a whole new level... Chess has more personal issues than you can imagine. I was disappointed by the consistant drug additiction and I think it took away from the book. Overall the story was very readable and I really enjoyed Terrible, but I found it hard to like Chess and what she stood for. I wish she was a stronger character. "

" Unholy Ghosts was very difficult for me to get into. I tried to read the book several times before I forced myself to sit down and finish it. The writing seems jumbled, the setting is jarring, the characters are ill formed and the story pace is awkward. For me, I couldn't get into the characters, setting, or plot. "

" this is an amazing opening for a great premise. I will absolutely read the following books. Chess is so unique and Terrible so interesting. I like all the characters development and I'm dying to learn more about the "church". a really great beginning! "

" This was such a dark book but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Chess's drug use kind of bothered me, but I was able to get past it because, otherwise, she was so strong of character. I really liked Terrible, and hope we get to see him again in book 2. "
