Leona Hewitt, disguised in men’s formal evening clothes, has secretly made her way into Lord Delbridge’s private museum to recover a relic stolen from her family years ago. But someone else is there in the dimly lit gallery, on the same errand: a tall, black-cloaked man whose very voice is enough to put her in a trance. Thaddeus Ware, a mesmerist with powerful psychic energy, is accustomed to fearful reactions from others - women in particular. After all, a man who can control the minds and actions of others could rob a lady of her virtue - without her ever knowing! But Leona shows no trace of hysteria in his presence. A force to be reckoned with as both a gifted crystal worker and a woman, she exerts a rather hypnotic power over the hypnotist himself. And she is determined to keep the crystal they recovered, by giving him the slip at a run-down London inn. Thaddeus, on assignment for the secretive Arcane Society, knows the menace Leona is courting by absconding with the crystal. It is a source of remarkable energy, and it holds the potential for great destruction. Lord Delbridge has already killed two men to acquire it, for it is his key to membership in the elite, shadowy group known as the Third Circle. And with the help of a seductive hunter of preternatural skill, dubbed “The Midnight Monster” by the press, Delbridge intends to find her. With the stolen crystal in their possession, the danger is only beginning. Download and start listening now!

" I think this one would have been better in print. The audio was SO ANNOYING! But, that aside, the story fell short to me. The romance was flat and alot of the historic details about the arcane society I found somewhat boring. Again, I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it instead of listened to it. I had to finish so I could continue with the other books in the series that I already have. Overall I like the series, so I'll continue, but this one didn't do much for me. "

" I'm a fan of Amanda Quick, and the storyline was fast-paced and fun. But I didn't care for the strange magic and paranormal powers in The Third Circle. "

" Not as good as others in series I felt a little slow "

" I enjoy the Arcane society books. The Third Circle has a good blend of historical romance and paranormal, so folks who enjoy either of those genres will enjoy this book. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Kim Serra | 1/20/2014

" As always with these arcane society books, a good mystery romance with a little paranormal thrown in to spice things up. A fun good read for the summer. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Michelle DeKorver | 1/16/2014

" I really have been enjoying this series. A little too mature for my 13 year old, though. Just a bit too descriptive with the sex. "

" Leona is a crystal reader. While dressed in mens clothing, she runs into (literally) Thaddeus while both are trying to steal a powerful crystal from Lord Delbridge. I quite enjoyed this Victorian era Arcane Society novel. The characters were well developed and the adventure quite good. "

" I am re-reading this series and upgraded from 4 to 5 stars. This one worked for me. I'm not going into explaining, just read it, if you like Amanda you'll like this one. "

" I read this at the beach and really enjoyed it. It was very different from what I was expecting. I did not realize that it is serial. I will read the others. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Kathi Sharp | 12/4/2013

" Pleasant enough but not up to Amanda Quick's regular standards. The characters and the plot both lacked substance. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Trish | 10/3/2013

" I really like this series. I think she writes them very well and it's harder to solve these issues in that time era than it would be now. I'm not usually into historical type novels, but these capture my interest. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Aisley | 1/6/2013

" This was on its way to be a "great story". The sudden and ill-placed dead of one of the evil characters comes as shower of cold water on a bonfire; you still have the wood and the ashes, but it is not a bonfire anymore. "

" No complaints from me about Ms Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz/Jayne Castle... I love the Arcane Society series and I really like that she writes them in past, present, and future.. The reading order can get confusing but its spelled out pretty easily on her page.. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Kelly | 6/30/2012

" This was light and quick, sometimes exactly what a gal needs to lighten things up a bit. It was a cross between, let's see, the Twilight Saga and Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Wanda | 4/21/2012

" this one kind of the second sight, the frist book in the series. Leona, the main female character, did get on my nerves, but not as much as venetia did. Thaddues and Leona do make a good pair, when they aren't fighting. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 pianogal | 11/2/2011

" Good book in the series, but there's something about these that just leaves me a little flat. It's like we only get to see the surface or something. Good, but not great.... "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kate | 10/9/2011

" Really should be 2 1/2-- it wasn't as good as some of the other books in the Arcane series, mostly because the characters weren't very developed. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Heather | 9/27/2011

" I do like the way the author writes. I have read her before. Interesting is how I would describe it. If you don't mind the hypnotists, crystal reading sorceress storyline, then it was good. Definite romance with details. "
