A canine Search and Rescue volunteer fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness in this riveting #1 New York Times bestseller from Nora Roberts.
To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life—a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare: an encounter with the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.
On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude necessary to rebuild her life with her three loyal Labs. But all that changes on the day intensely private wood artist Simon Doyle barrels up her drive with an out-of-control puppy, desperate for her help.
As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

"Liked this way better than I expected to. Love JD Robb, but have only tried 1 or 2 NR. But this was full of the snappy dialog that is a big part of the JD Robb attraction, plus the main character is a dog trainer, and the male lead reminds me of Jack Reacher. Nuff said. "

“Search-and-rescue dogs are a focal point of this wonderful tale of love and adventure. Roberts has a marvelous ability to blend in the perfect amounts of character drama, realistic romance and chilling suspense. The result—an unputdownable read! Roberts again proves why her name is synonymous with excellence.
— RT Book ReviewsStrong romantic suspense...The serial killer subplot is not new, as the copycat has been done before, but Nora Roberts makes it seem fresh with her incredible writing skill as she uses the Search and Rescue canines as key elements in the exciting story line. Readers will enjoy Ms. Roberts’ entertaining Puget Sound thriller.
— Midwest Book ReviewRoberts deftly packs the plot of her latest supremely satisfying novel with plenty of sexy romance, high-stakes suspense, clever dialogue and fascinating details about Search and Rescue dogs.
— Booklist" One of my favorites by Nora Roberts. Would recommend. "
— Michelle, 2/20/2014" Excellent- suspense and well it did give me bad dreams one night "
— Kristin, 2/17/2014" (Audiobook) Not bad. Nora tends to deliver a solid entertainment for me, although this one is not a favorite. I like rough men, but her Simon was slightly more rude than I prefer. The dog training stuff was interesting although perhaps a little too prevalent in the story. The mystery was solved by the middle of the book but she managed to keep the tension going. I liked the heroine just fine, especially her strength and self-reliance. Jaws, the lab puppy, stole the show for me. "
— Gail, 2/12/2014" Nora Roberts is a little hit and miss with me. I've read a few and almost gagged on my own vomit...but there are a few of her books which do everything right and this is one of them. "

— Neha, 4/1/2012" A good read. Nora Roberts quite effectively used her both her talent as a writer of crime fiction and her talent as a romance author in this story. It's a nice break from all the "3 women, 3 love stories" trilogies by her that I've read so far. "
— Denise, 3/27/2012" Oh my goodness!!! What a page turner! I love Nora Roberts romance novels so this was a little different than what I am used to from her but I LOVED IT!!!! I didn't want to put the book down and fell asleep with the book on most nights. "

— Traci, 5/11/2011" this is a GREAT book especially if you like dogs. Not your typical Nora Roberts. Fun and interesting "
— Eliza, 5/11/2011" You can always count on Nora Roberts to give you a good (if predictable) romance with some suspense thron in, just to keep you interested.

I learned a few things that I passed on to my puppy which was a pleasant surprise. "
— Jen, 5/10/2011" Snooze fest. It strung you along for forever with very little payoff. the Protagonist love intrest is a wash. The serial killer not at all frightening and the stand off over in about a minute
needed some serious editing. Story line would have been better as a short story "
