Judith Ivory's writing has been called "splendid, elegant ... lush, artistic romance" by Romantic Times. Set amidst the glitz and glamour of high society Victorian London, The Proposition is an opulent tale of blossoming love. Lady Edwina Bollash is a woman of importance and distinction who has never been the object of any man's affection. However, when she meets Mick Tremore, a tall, handsome young man from the bottommost rung of society, she instantly attracts his attention. As Mick wants desperately to become a gentleman, Edwina decides to transform him into a man with class. From the start, she notices the way he looks at her. But what she doesn't yet realize is that as much as she is preparing him, he is preparing her for a place in his heart--and in his bed. Narrator Steven Crossley elevates the mounting passion of Ivory's prose, building tension with every breath and every sensuous word.

"Mick and Winnie are on my top ten best romance couples of all time. After all, how could I possibly resist a sexy ratcatcher and his virile moustache seducing a well born bluestocking with exceptionally long stems? It was tender, funny and darn hot. It had an aging ferret and a high bouncing terrier. Con men, a lost heir scam, and a wonderful comedy of manners. Read it, do!"

" This is a great book with fantastic plot and memorable characters. Some of the scenes made me laugh out loud while the others were very sweet and tender. I absolutely loved this book & I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes historical romance novels with a beautiful love story that comes with plenty of witty dialogue and humor. "

— Victoria, 8/3/2013" Loved the beginning and writing style. Got worried about the animals. Skimmed through the end to make sure they were ok, never went back. didn't like the ending. started as research. "
— Maria, 7/30/2013" This would have been 4 and a half stars if the ending was not so contrived. I loved the hero and heroine. They had great chemistry and Mick is one of a kind. "
— Ctanner, 6/6/2013" The audio version has one of the best narrators ever, to go along with a good story. "
— Gamatst, 3/12/2013" The audio version has one of the best narrators ever, to go along with a good story. "
— Gamatst, 3/12/2013" Cute reversal of My Fair Lady, but it just didn't grab me. "
— Irishgirl1247, 11/13/2012" I enjoyed this story, and I REALLY liked the narrator (Steven Crossley) just not together for some reason. "
— Shari, 5/16/2012" If I could give this 6 stars I would. This is the first novel I've read by Ms. Ivory and I'm thoroughly impressed. Her characters are remarkably well thought out, realistic, memorable, and just plain awesome. I don't think I've EVER enjoyed characters in ANY genre as much as these two. "
— Terri, 5/9/2012" This book is divine. Sophisticated, layered, sexy, smart, and heart-breaking. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. Bit of a gender-reversal of My Fair Lady. They are worlds apart, but Judith Ivory brings them together in a clever and sweet way. "
— Lindsay, 3/1/2012" The ending was too farfetched, but the relationship between Edwina and Mick was sigh-worthy. "
— Erin, 10/25/2011" The audio version has one of the best narrators ever, to go along with a good story. "
— Brenda, 8/15/2011" I loved everything about this book but the ending, which infuriated me. "
— Ruthie, 5/29/2011" Horrible ending, but the hero is a rat catcher with a pet ferret. Another novel stars a yeowoman and a hero whose Russian foreignness makes him fruitily delicious. I give Judith Ivory the benefit of the doubt. "
— K., 5/12/2011" A gender-reversed Pygmalion. Liked it a lot! :) "
— sunsetsylvia, 4/23/2011" One of my top five books ever. What a little gem. "
— Shabby, 1/25/2011" As far as I recall, my first Judith Ivory book, and it was delightful. Talk about sexual tension! Most of the book is spent with two characters, one setting, one simple plot, yet the sexual tension keeps you turning the pages and enjoying the story. I loved the characters, most especially Mick. "
— Sheri, 11/17/2010" It was pretty much predictable and although it was supposed to be warm, it had a middle section that was way more descriptive than it needed to be! Also the "twist" was exactly what one would expect. Not one I would recommend. "
— Cary, 11/12/2010" just remembered reading this one years ago and loving it. "
— chanceofbooks, 10/30/2010" The audio version has one of the best narrators ever, to go along with a good story. "
— Brenda, 10/4/2010" One of my all-time favorite romances. Wonderful leads and just a great story. "
— Michael, 9/29/2010" Delicious book. Ending is way far fetched, but charming. Pygmalion off-take with reversed genders. "
