"Having seen the TV Series of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander Books 1 & 2, and listened to the audiobook of Books 3 to 6, I had to continue this wonderful saga with her Book 7 – An Echo in the Bone. I love the way Diana’s Scottish / C18th English Colonial American humour, intrigue, pathos & empathy is brought to life in Davina’s audio performance. I find the story enthralling & enchanting as Diana’s web-like connections both within & between Chapter, Sections & Books both fill-out & surprise me from the Plot Summaries that I have already read of all the Books (up to No. 8). This confirmed my decision of how much I needed to get these audiobooks in order to find some approximation of the TV Series’ version of Book 1& 2. I both can’t wait & clearly hope that the visualisations of Books 3-8 will encompass the settings, characters, actions & emotions revealed in the audiobooks in their TV series that drew me in so inextricably with the first 2 Book’s TV series."

Quotes

  • “For six episodes, Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander saga has kept readers enthralled with its time-travel romance about eighteenth-century warrior Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his twentieth-century wife Claire Randall. In this latest full-bodied installment, nearly a thousand pages long, this devoted pair must personally experience the American rebellion, a historical event with a foreordained conclusion, but their knowledge cannot guarantee their safety or the safety of those they love. An Echo in the Bone is a standalone historical romance that meets the high standards of this series.”

    — Barnes&Noble.com, editorial review
  • “All you’ve come to expect from Gabaldon…adventure, history, romance, fantasy.”

    — Arizona Republic
  • “Since Outlander readers have become invested in the lives of Jamie Fraser and his wife, Claire, these are not simply fictional characters. They have come alive through Gabaldon’s incredible storytelling. The eagerly awaited seventh volume offers fans a sweeping tale filled with breathtaking adventure and rich and accurate historical details. But it is the powerful human relationships that transcend time and space that move Gabaldon’s work out of the ordinary. This is nothing short of a masterpiece.”

    — RT Book Reviews (4½ stars)
  • “The seventh installment of Gabaldon’s popular Outlander series will not disappoint her fans…Readers anticipating a lengthy visit with Jamie and Claire may be vexed to find that a goodly chunk of the story is devoted to William; but his adventures include all the thrilling elements Outlander addicts have come to crave. Relish this book—it might be a long stretch until the next fix.”

    — Library Journal
  • “An Echo in the Bone is a wonderful, adventure-filled, emotion-packed reunion with the Frasers.”

    — Romance Reviews Today
  • “Pages fly by and leave readers hungering to know what comes next for a set of engagingly colorful characters who by now feel like old friends.”

    — BookLunes.com
  • “Davina Porter’s virtuoso narration clarifies the leaps between the three major story lines…Thanks to Porter’s superb voicings, especially of sharp-witted Claire and brawny Jamie, the listener follows the potentially bewildering episode changes. Porter excels in voicing their son-in-law’s raspy attempts to sing with a throat injury, due to an unsuccessful hanging, and improves a few beleaguered narrative sections with snappy pacing…Delightful.”

I do not care much for the 'love' between Claire and Jaime - even though the series is centered on them. Either way - the other characters have become something I look forward to learning more of each day. "

" The 5th book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon is slow in the the beginning but starts to pick up fast. We have a lot more American history. And love and every day work to take care of a farm in the 1760's. Diana introduces new character's and you just fall more in love with the old ones. So keep on reaching to see who comes back and who leaves! And who fall in love! "

" This was book 7 of 8 in the full series. Each one is so good. I love all the history in each book. And with this one, I connected to the history of the war and locations being in New York and Lake George as I live a few hours from there. It was like having a history lesson from people I know! I highly recommend the entire series. My only regret is that I only have one book left in this series. I will miss all the characters once I have finished the series. I can always go onto the shorter stand alone books to revisit them or start over. Listen/read them all, over and over. You will love them! They always leave me wondering how the heck does she do it and do all those characters live inside her head and talk to her? "

You feel as if you were there. A note to books on tape listeners - start from Outlander and work your way, in order of publishing. Do not skip any. It's worth the effort. "

" I'm having a really hard time rating this book. I think accurately it would be more like 3.5 stars. I absolutely love this series, but it's hard to get through some of historical and battle scenes. It's such a long, dense book that it can be frustrating to get through, but in spite of it all, I love the story. This will be the first time I have to wait for the next book to come out, and it will be such a difficult wait. The way this book left off, left me reeling! "

" I love Diana Gabaldon and have thoroughly enjoyed the first six books in the Outlander series. This book just doesn't compare. I am almost halfway through the book and I had to put it down. Some parts were good, but some parts were mind numbingly boring. I may get back to it, then again, I may not. "
