The ultimate secret. The ultimate agent. Nathaniel Cade returns. For 140 years, Nathaniel Cade has been the President's Vampire, sworn to protect and serve his country. Cade's existence is the most closely guarded of White House secrets: a superhuman covert agent who is the last line of defense against nightmare scenarios that ordinary citizens only dream of.When a new outbreak of an ancient evil-one that he has seen before- comes to light, Cade and his human handler, Zach Barrows, must track down its source. To "protect and serve" often means settling old scores and confronting new betrayals . . . as only a centuries-old predator can.

"Fun! A mash-up of historical fiction, espionage thriller, horror, camp and delightfully dark humor. While the plot is purely incredible, the characters, relationships and action provoke a willingly suspension of disbelief. Cade's anachronistic slang is funny and charming. Flashbacks add depth and interest in a cotton candy conspiracy way. The use of popular fiction / cultural icons for cameo appearances added to the whimsical humor peppering the thrill ride with a greater variety of humor. Within the spoofiness there are provocative philosophical questions about friendship, free will and the possibility of change and redemption. Fans of action hero thrillers and Buffy-verse might enjoy this series. I look forward to future installments."

" The first book in the series was fun but this is just silly. The conspiracy is so huge it would be easier to list those not in the know than those that are. I am happy to suspend disbelief for an enjoyable read but this asks far too much. "
— Richard, 1/24/2014" Highly excellent and more than a vampire against the paranormal world story. Cannot wait to read more of this series and anything else by this author. "
— Vickie, 1/24/2014" Cool story on audio- sometimes hard to listen to as was graphic in parts. "
— Elizabeth, 1/20/2014" This was a great sequel to Blood Oath...the action keeps ya going...the comraderie between Cade and Zach is great...theres talk of movie rights for this series...I think it would work "
— Rick, 1/19/2014" really enjoy the style of this book.... after reading Blood Oath, I saw the new one coming out and that Chris was signing at a local bookstore near my best friends home (across the country), I had her go out there, get it and send to me! awesome and easy read! Now I am sending back to her to read..... "
— Dani, 1/17/2014" Second verse was as good as the first. A little darker, and a conspiracy theorist's dream. Impatiently awaiting the third installment. "
— Mscout, 1/4/2014" It was just not as appealing as the first in the series...the "monsters" just did not do it for me.... "
— Tricia, 1/2/2014" Great story, with a continuation of the overarching storyline. Interesting take on the buddy cop/agents trope. Fun, fast read, the author doesn't try to make the book anything other than what it is - a summer blockbuster movie style novel. Worth your time and money. "
— SpyNavy, 12/27/2013" Christopher Farnsworth comes into his own with the second book of the series. Much better written, plotted and detailed than the first. This novel really delivers borrowing alot on Lovecraftian monsters the books hums along with great action and horror. "
— Shawn, 12/21/2013" This is a good series. I do have a hard time keeping up with who the bad guys are exactly. "
— Sheree, 12/7/2013" Well............this was surely different! Probably more a 2.5 star read, but I'll go the extra 1/2 for the writing style. Nathaniel Cade is a very original character, and this was a one of a kind tale. I don't know that I'll read more of these, but glad I gave this one a shot. "
— Melodie, 12/4/2013" Very good. Very fast read though. Devoured it in a day. "
— Phil, 11/26/2013" Finally, a vampire that makes people wet their pants, instead of trying to get in them. "
— Autumn, 9/9/2013" I love this series and can't wait for more! "
— Raquel, 9/5/2013" I normally find sequels disappointing. However, this book was even better than the last one. "
— Natalia, 7/2/2013" The pace of a James Patterson thriller crossed with Hell-Boy paranormal and Fringe para-science. Great read. "
— Karen, 3/31/2013" Wow! Another 5-star author! Who better to protect the president than a 140 year old vampire who's sworn an oath? The best thing about finding new authors with kickass series is you always have a wonderful book waiting in your library. How have I never found this genre before? "
— Sally, 12/3/2012" Great sequel too the first book. Fast paced and with some good character development. "
— Roger, 8/17/2012" A little less ridiculous than Blood Oath but just as entertaining. "
— Steven, 4/29/2012" Better than the first one. It was a little confusing to follow though. Cade was more likable in this one. Love the slang. "
— Linda, 6/12/2011" I loved book 2 as much as book one...whew..pretty tense with those Snakeheads!! Can't wait for the next one!! "
— Kathy, 6/12/2011" Loved it from beginning to end. Can't wait for Cade's next 'Adventure' . I hope he reaches his full potential as the 'Offspring' of a King Vampire. Also would love to know what a King Vampire means and what can a King Vampire do ? :) Go Mr.Farnsworth! "
— Rahul, 6/12/2011" Aah, I wish there were more to this series! And this just released, I'll have to wait (seemingly) forever for the next. "
— Katie, 6/10/2011" Sat down and read this in one day! If you liked the Passage, vampires, conspiracy thrillere, you'll love this. There was just enough historical background in it, to make it seem quasi plausible! "
— Vicki, 5/14/2011" There was ALOT going on in this sequel. As a great man said "lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you." political intrigue, Blackwater, conspiracies -- and that is just the actual humans. But the over the top ness is part of the fun! Non-stop action at its heart. "
— Coki, 5/11/2011" Not quite as good as the first one, but excellent nonetheless. "
