"This novel is a lot different from the suspense novels Mary Higgins Clark usually rights in that it is centered around a central character, a lottery winner who is not victim herself but aids in solving crimes. The character is a quirky likable character but lacks the depth of the protagonists in books I read by her in the past. The book was a little too "Murder She Wrote" because someone not involved in law enforcement at all is able to solve crimes that detectives cannot solve. It is a good read for anyone who likes a more comedic spin on a suspense thriller."

“Clark's books are always megahits, and her fans love the nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat suspense that is her trademark.”
— Booklist" Alvirah and Willy get a bit on my nerves. Not realistic people. Goofy. "
— Terry, 2/20/2014" Totally charming. Six short mystery stories, with retired maid Alvirah and her retired plumber husband Willy, who won the lottery, providing companionable conversation, mild chuckles, and solutions to the crimes. "
— Chazzle, 2/14/2014" These are all short stories featuring Alvirah and Willy Meehan. She was a house cleaner in NYC who ends up winning the lotto. They are a funny and endearing couple and the stories are all short and keep you interested. Alvirah is one on my favorite fictional characters so I loved these. "
— Karianne, 2/12/2014" "Murder She Wrote"-ish, in print. Not very enjoyable. "
— Jim, 2/11/2014" Alvirah and Willy seem to be a magnet to trouble. This is a book of short stories of two as they go through some adventures they get involved in. It is an easy read and fun as well. Winning the lottery has not changed those two. They are so lovable. "
— Linda, 2/10/2014" A very funny book. I love the characters in this book and I am glad that she has had them in other books. "
— Tonnie, 1/25/2014" It was more like a collection of stories than a novel. Also, the main character suddenly developed super crime solving powers after winning the lottery, a bit far fetched. It would have been much easier to read if it flowed better, it just jumped from one story to the next. "
— Sarah, 1/22/2014" I didn't realize that this was a bunch of short stories at first but once I figured it out, I had a fun read. I liked reading smaller mysteries that I could read in a single sitting. "
— Heidi, 1/15/2014" I love the characters in this book. It was a fun read. "
— Valori, 1/10/2014" Group of short stories. It was good but I like more in depth stories. "
— Debra, 12/21/2013" I listened to this on tape, it was fun, I enjoyed the charachters most of all. Fun short stories. "
