Explore the wisdom of a New Thought classic and master the game of life! In the classic bestseller The Game of Life and How to Play It, Florence Scovel Shinn helped to define the personal success genre. Written in the new thought tradition, her message is simple yet transformative—we receive back what we put into the world through our actions, energy, and attitudes. Negativity and pessimism are returned in kind, but by switching the script in favor of positive attitudes and affirmations, we are able to manifest success and joy in everything we do. Life, Shinn tells us, is not a battle of us against the world, but rather a game of giving and receiving. What we give to the world we receive back—whether that be the dark weight of fear and inhibition or the freedom of joy and empowerment. A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin's Essentials

Florence Scovel Shinn (1871–1940) was an American artist and book illustrator who became a New Thought spiritual teacher and metaphysical writer in her middle years. In New Thought circles, she is best known for her first book, The Game of Life and How to Play It, self-published in 1925. Your Word Is Your Wand was published in 1928 and The Secret Door to Success in 1940. The Game of Life and How to Play It includes quotes from the Bible and anecdotal explanations of the author’s understanding of God and man. Her philosophy centers on the power of positive thought and usually includes instructions for verbal or physical affirmation.
Jennifer Jill Araya has been trained as an opera singer and orchestral cellist, lending a musicality and depth of understanding to her narration that help bring her authors’ stories to life. When she’s not narrating, Jennifer can be found hiking, biking, running, or generally exploring her home city of Cincinnati with her husband, Arturo, and their two children.
