"Cute book. Not serious literature, but a cute chick lit, esay "beach" read. I thought Dempsey was very likeable and I was curious to know how it would all work out for her in the end. The only thing that I would have liked to see is a more conclusive ending ("One Year Later... or something like that). But Andrews left it wide open for a sequel, which I hope comes along soon. Another good effort by Mary Kay Andrews."

" I enjoyed this book. It was light-hearted, had a little humor and romance. It's not anything special, but it was just what I needed right now, after all the super intense books I've been reading. "
— Sandra, 1/28/2014" Enjoyed the premise of the book. Although I do wonder just how a lawyer who never practised law, could end up being such a miracle worker in rehabbing a badly run-down house. She took off all the tile in a huge kitchen, and cleaned half the glue in one evening. After a week of working non-stop stipping floors and cabinets and such, you find out she had time in the evenings to completely re-furnish (after finding/cleaning the beautiful old linens) her bedroom. And, the question is, in the end, did she buy the house from her Dad, or just let the house she had put her soul into, be sold? "
— Terri, 1/27/2014" If you're in the mood for something light and a little silly. Dempsey fixes up her dilapidated family home while also fixing up her own messed up life. Pretty predictable characters and plot, but enjoyable. "
— Kelsey, 1/16/2014" Another Southern location for Mary Kay Andrews. This one involves a little politics and house flipping as a cure for trying to forget your problems. The author lets us know its hard work to fix a house up but not everyone gets an expert to guide a novice in the right direction. But this is still an entertaining book which is why it gets 4stars. "
— Tisha, 1/10/2014" As her life falls apart in Washington, D.C. Dempsey learns to find out what her "real life" really is in Gutherie, GA. "
— Jenay, 1/5/2014" "Great self-discovery read - awesome characters!" Great author! "
— Judy, 12/26/2013" I adore Mary Kay Andrews books. This one is no exception. The characters are so vivid and fun. I also love the Southern names and the old fashioned manners of the gentlemen. I wish they were real people, so we could be friends! Can't wait to read what Mary Kay writes next! "
— Loni, 12/20/2013" While one would say that the ending is obvious, how you get there is almost always what makes reading enjoyable. The book starts with a young woman who gets duped and the rest of the tale shows her transformation and ultimate revenge. The narrative gets long but the characters are interesting. "
— Alee, 12/16/2013" Not good. This one could me made into a Lifetime movie easily. Dreck! "
— Hope, 12/3/2013" Everyone that enjoys a good book this is it. "
— Rita, 11/21/2013" This is a best=selling author? Not worth your time. "
— Barbara, 11/13/2013" I always enjoy books by Mary Kay Andrews. She tries to inject a little humor, some romance, maybe a little mystery. There's a nice mix to her wriing that makes it a fast, fun read. "
— Deborah, 11/9/2013" 3.5 stars. Would have gotten 4 stars if the ending hadn't just ended. I expected maybe 2-4 more chapters to resolve the story. Otherwise I liked this book. Nice and fluffy, comical at times, good protagonist with a strong and likable voice. Beach book, chick-fic, southern fiction. "
— Sondra, 10/10/2013" Fun read for vacation to the Smokies! Ex lobbyist fixes up a house in Georgia because her boss gets crossed up in problems and has no options. "
— Jenny, 10/4/2013" I loved everything about this book but I wish there had been more to the ending! It left you wondering what was going to happen next! The perfect combination of fun, romance, and suspense! So glad I found this book at my library! I will definitely read more by this wonderful author! "
— Meagan, 8/25/2013" Plot ok, easy read, a bit predictable, characters somehow don't ever get beyond the superficial, not much psychological depth to them. I found the "fixing up" part of it also quite superficial. "
— Alec, 8/13/2013" Cute fun read novel. "
— Pat, 8/9/2013" Nice Southern love story! "
— Leslie, 8/6/2013" Unremarkable chick lit, but I'm a sucker for Mary Kay Andrews so I'll read anything new of hers. "
— A., 6/29/2013" Nothing is as good as the Savannah books but I found this entertaining. the men in books that are not Savannah% are just not believable, too accomodating. that doesn't happen. I enjoyed the story of the refurbish of the house. "
— Janice, 5/31/2013" predictable but still cute "
— Malan, 5/4/2013" enjoyed this book, if you've read her others, they are almost predictable, but fun anyway. I always get a library copy when i want to read this type book "
— Lydia, 4/15/2013" I thought it was too slow-paced. The story was told in a sing-song way that was not very entertaining. "
— Marier, 2/21/2013" This was a cute light read. A little romanc and self discovery. "
— Chrystal, 2/18/2013" Loved this book. Great escape book. "
— Johnkellybennett, 1/2/2013" Lots going on in this heroine's life...a fun and funny read. Had me portioning chapters out like candy to savor longer! "
— Mary, 12/16/2012" typical.... "
— sabrina, 9/24/2012" I just love this author. Although it was different than her other quirky novels, I really enjoyed it. "
