"One of my favorites in the series so far. This is the book that explains how and why Jack Reacher will leave his career as a military police. It takes place while Reacher is still an MP. He gets an emergency transfer to a new base and ends up investigating the death of a general, his wife and a Delta solider. There is a bigger coverup going on but it is complex and interesting. Also nice to meet Jack's brother Joe while he is alive and working for the Treasury department. An added bonus for me were the scenes in Paris."

" This is a fascinating account of a case that defined Reacher's military career. Once again, he manages to unspool interesting threads in the days when the Berlin Wall was coming down and the Cold War was ending. This meant a likely shift in the composition of the army and Reacher finds himself in the middle of that transition. Child's book takes advantage of using a reflective lens to foreshadow the geopolitical future as we know it now. Overall, it's another winner. "

" I'm starting to go back and pick up the older Reacher novels that I haven't read. This is another strong story from Mr Child. It adds some to the overall Reacher mystique. Its weird now to read a book that talks about faxing and other 20th century technologies. "
