"I like C.J. Box more and more. I enjoy the Joe Pickett series. He makes the plots entertaining and complex enough to surprise and keep the reader engaged in the story. Good read. I wish Joe were not always made to be such a "duffus" He's a great guy, a smart guy and a successful guy and I get annoyed at the constant self deprecation. I understand he's imperfect, but Mr. Box doesn't have to run it in the ground. Joe is too good of a guy."
— Linda (5 out of 5 stars)
“This relentlessly paced powder keg of a thriller could be Box’s best to date.”
— Publishers Weekly" This was a good read. It had lots of turns and twists until the very end. I very much enjoyed it. "
— Baranet, 5/23/2018" (oops, posted the wrong review the first time!) Another great Box book. I just love the Joe Pickett character... and Nate! "
— Erin, 2/17/2014" i love the series of joe and his family. "
— Fran, 2/12/2014" A quick but highly entertaining read. Able to read in a short afternoon. "
— Leon, 2/7/2014" I just finished Below Zero, which I originally started in Jan!! For some reason, when I initially started this it didn't capture my attention and I put it down for a spell. I recently picked it back up and restarted from the beginning. And, I was happy I did so. The author portraits the bad guys and good guys in parallel. But, the line between the two is not distinct. Which makes for a suspenseful reading. I was a little distracted from the author's message concerning environmentalists and survivalists but overall enjoyed the storyline. I will be looking out for the other books in the series to catch up with. "
— Nicole, 2/6/2014" The story was okay, but I didn't care for his writing style. I did like the somewhat predictable twist at the end. "
— Jen, 1/23/2014" This was a good and bad, it was good for what happened at the end which is why it got 3 stars otherwise its a 2 star book. It felt like a cheesey mob movie. Nate once again though is a badass, plain and simple. "
— Wesley, 1/17/2014" I love C.J. Box books. Another great mystery with Joe Pickett and his family. A few plots lines going at once, a can't put it down read! "
— Dawn, 1/9/2014" Always about Wyoming makes it a fun mystery. Joe Pickett is a good guy and it makes for good listening while driving to Wyoming "
— Jan, 1/2/2014" so far so good. This is my first full KIndle book. "
— LaRaine, 12/31/2013" Another good book! Although the idea of April being alive is far fetched, I liked the twists and turns of finding out and her being reunited with the family. "
— Janne, 10/29/2013" Box really knows how to spin a yarn. Loved the ending in this book. I can't wait to read his next book in the series. "
— Kathy, 10/14/2013" Once again, a nice surpirse! Very timing topic. Like this guy. "
— Ms., 9/14/2013" I like the Joe Pickett series -- Nate Romanowski is bad ass as they come. I like the evocative descriptions of the wyoming settings, the tight plots and the well rendered characters -- "
— Rob, 2/25/2013" I have enjoyed other books by this author, but feel this is the best one I've read. "
— Sandy, 2/18/2013" Rather unsatisfying and as some have noted, even boring at times. Mr. Box is a really good writer, making the doldrums of this book all the more disappointing. I do recommend his other Pickett novels. "
— David, 7/23/2012" One of his better ones. I think he should stick with Joe Pickett stories, I didn't like his Three Weeks to Say Goodbye nearly as well. This is a pretty involved plot, and it kept my interest. "
— John, 5/10/2012" Good not great. Although it did keep my interest and will probably read more from this author. I did feel like the author assumes a less sophisticated reader. "
— Joan, 3/24/2012" Good story, but not quite up to some of his other books. If you haven't read any of C.J. Box's Joe Pickett series, start with Open Season, his first and read the books in order to follow the saga of Joe Pickett and his family. "
— Larry, 1/29/2012" Joe Pickett Novels are always fun for those from Wyoming. CJ Box references many places in the state of WYO and it is like you are right ther in the truck with Joe traveling around WYO solving mysteries. "
— Scott, 12/17/2011" Box returns to Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett. These are usually a good read and this one was no exception. "
— Icicle4, 11/13/2011" Game warden Joe Pickett is on the trail of some killers who turn out to be environmentalists who appear to have his adopted duaghter, formerly presumed dead. Does not engage his game warden themes as nicely as past ones in the series. "
— Michael, 10/25/2011" Joe Picket is a great character. I love his family and best friend Nate. The author weaves a terrific story and every book I have read so far has been a real page turner. Great stuff! "
— Cindy, 9/14/2011" I gave this three stars. It is about the average read, there is a little bit of suspense going on here and there with the mystery about April. I found myself skipping ahead in the slow parts and there were more then a few of those, but I liked the ending so that made up for it. "
— Tammy, 8/26/2011" Game warden Joe Pickett is back investigating a phone call from his foster daughter April who died in an explosion six years earlier. "
— Fredrick, 6/22/2011" Another good book! Although the idea of April being alive is far fetched, I liked the twists and turns of finding out and her being reunited with the family. "
— Janne, 6/8/2011" This was my first book by C. J. Box, whose books were recommended by a friend for my husband. Both of us enjoyed it very much. A completely different type mystery from what I usually read, but want to read more from this author. "
— Rita, 5/3/2011" Great book. Well thought out and how he connected the various people throughout the book. "
— Merceda, 5/2/2011" This book was a follow up to a previous book that I did not read, so I did not enjoy it quite as much as if it were a stand alone story. "
— Linda, 5/1/2011" Love the Joe Pickett series...a "Dudley Do Right" archtype...great settings, great characters...reading them in order...in this one Joe is back in the service and the step-daughter, whom all thought was killed emerges vis texts...the story unfolds from there...great fun!!! "
— Mark, 4/29/2011" Liked this one - didn't really see the ending coming. "
— Jan, 4/20/2011" I liked it had suspense to it and a ganster that was mean and nice. "
— Elvis, 4/17/2011" Great as a mystery especially if you like the environment, Wyoming, etc.

"
— Jane, 2/11/2011" Liked it...Joe Picket is a good hero. "
— Leigh, 2/9/2011" I really enjoy C.J Box novels but Below Zero has been my least favorite. The story is very predictable and because of this very boring. It hurts me to say it but this one was a dud for me. "
— Quinn, 12/3/2010" Really good. Did not take me very long to read so I could find out how it would end. Summer is my reading time out on the deck but the Wisc winter will eventually close in. "
— Joyce, 10/12/2010" Good easy read. Interesting, but nothing earth shattering. Still a fun mystery with a likable main charater. "
