"Some days I dislike the fact that when I start a book, especially the latest in a series I've enjoyed reading, I'm not sure if the author will be able to continue romancing his audience with the same character. Sandford does it again though with another page-turner, as we follow Lucas through the twists and turns of investigation to discover and bring to justice the men currently hunting his wife. Virgil makes his appearance, along with many other characters involved in Davenport's world that we've come to enjoy. As usual, we get to see the events unfold through both sides of the law while watching the good guys focus on their prey. Settle in for a nice afternoon."
— Gina (5 out of 5 stars)
" I definitely like Lucas Davenport better than I like Virgil Flowers. An interesting plot but I hate having information about what the bad guys are doing so I just skip those, I like to find out when the main characters do. "
— Sarah, 2/16/2014" I have read most of the Prey novels and find them quite enjoyable. They have a formula yes, but are not always predictable. The returning characters Lucas, Weather, Flowers are comfortable and familiar like your favorite pair if jeans. I hadn't read a Prey novel in a while and really enjoyed this one. It dives into Weathers profession as a surgeon, which is different and interesting. Yes, one must wonder how these guys get themselves into such binds, but suspend that disbelief and enjoy a good fast paced thriller. And I love the basis in Minneapolis. They are especially good reads when one is longing for the winter. Can't wait for buried prey! "
— Laura, 2/10/2014" I have read 20 of the books in the "Prey" series. All have been pretty good. "
— David, 2/8/2014" Not a bad story, but some of the sections on the surgeries became a little too detailed. Also, when the perspective changed in addition to the time relative to other scenes in the books, it became a little confusing. "
— Katrina, 1/31/2014" I was a little disappointed in the bad guys this book compared to previous prey novels, but I love Lucas and the gang. "
— Stephanie, 1/29/2014" Good ol' Lucas Davenport has yet another series of murders to solve, this one has a real twist as to who the "badguy" is, and a nicely executed ending by Letty. Beware, this is one of his more grusesome crime scenes. "
— Kathy, 1/16/2014" Another solid Lucas Davenport episode. Like comfort food for the mind? Ears? Once again starts better than it finishes, but it's hard to give any Davenport mystery that features Virgil Flowers less than four stars. "
— Jon, 1/14/2014" Like all the previous "Prey" books, this was finished in one day - unable to put it down. "
— Nedra, 1/3/2014" Interesting from start to finish. Enjoyed the book "
— Jhall, 12/28/2013" The "Prey" series is not nearly as good, in my opinion, as the Virgil Flowers series. There's more humor and a feeling that Sandford is enjoying writing the Flowers series. "
— Michele, 12/23/2013" I usually enjoy this series, but I found this book to be dull, predictable, and, I hate to say it, lacking in suspense! "
— VickiLee, 12/21/2013" Great book in the Lucas Davenport series. "
— Sheree, 12/17/2013" everyone needs a good kick-but cop story! Love Weather! "
— Carol, 12/9/2013" The storyline of the crimes was good enough, but I really enjoyed the side story of the conjoined twins. Interesting stuff. "
— Becky, 12/6/2013" I liked this addition to the Prey series, and I really think they have a good thing with Richard Ferrone narrating! Good characters and an enjoyable side story about Weather's surgery on the twins. "
— Jane, 12/5/2013" Adequate, but not up to Sandford's usual level of edge-of-the-seat detective/mystery thrillers. I agree with one other reviewer in that I think his new series highlighting Virgil Flowers is better. "
— Greg, 12/5/2013" Love the entire series! 20 of 20 - always pre-ordered on Amazon, waiting for the Virgil Flowers book to come out next week! "
— Amanda, 9/14/2013" A gang of thieves rob a hospital. Weather Karkinnon is a witness, so they target her to shut her up. Fun asskickery, as usual. But these titles don't even try to make sense. "
— Matthuvius, 5/24/2013" They're all good; this one too. "
— Ken, 3/22/2013" One of the better Lucas Davenport books in this series. This one hits close to home and involves Weather and a whole bunch of psychos. As usual you have to suspend disbelief but it is a fast paced book which despite its length can be finished off in a day or two at most. "
— Corny, 2/14/2013" A standard Davenport novel. Sandford does it well, and I was especially struck by the easy camaraderie among all of Davenport's cohorts, more so in this one than in any of the previous books. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. "
— Deb, 11/12/2012" Davenport good as always "
— Rosaliie, 10/29/2012" So far this is great. "
— Cassandra, 7/7/2012" For a fasr easy and fun read with familiar characters, really like this series of cop/mysteries.Easy- peasy -no thinking !!! "
— Cookiesue9x, 7/3/2012" I havnt read this author is awhile. He writes such great character driven mysteries. "
— Rhonda, 6/2/2012" Good. Like always. "
— Cathy, 4/26/2012" I enjoy all the Prey books. "
— Paula, 10/15/2011" i must have read too many of these! although the story is good, the characters old favorites, this book did not seem to be as compleling as those past. still a good "summer" book. "
— Barb, 8/31/2011" Another page turner from John Sandford. The regular cast of characters and many plot twists and turns. Keeps you guessing. "
— Jaime, 7/4/2011" They're all good; this one too. "
— Ken, 5/17/2011" Another great read from John Sandford! This was especially good - had me page turning late into the night! "
— Joan, 5/16/2011" Quick, easy, mindless read done in the same formulaic manner as most other mass produced mystery books. But, when you don't really want to concentrate yet do want to escape reality for a few hours--these types of books are perfect. "
— Michelle, 5/16/2011" This book was alright. I only really enjoyed the second half; the first half started off a little slow. "
— Nichole, 5/11/2011" Maybe not Sandford's best but still plenty good. "
— Scott, 5/8/2011" Just when you think Sandford couldn't possibly write a better thriller... he does! "
— Les, 4/29/2011" Read this last year - forgot to enter it. Although I don't really remember it, I gave it 3 stars because they're all good! "
— Jennifer, 4/2/2011" So far very good story line "
