"Another fine Deborah Knott story, and her convoluted family tree keeps getting knottier (get it?) - there is a reason Maron offers a detailed chart on her website. One begins to wonder why the good Judge doesn't try moving away from home, since there isn't a crime in the District that doesn't involve one of her relatives. Maron again does a fantastic job of involving all the senses in her settings; not only can one smell the popcorn, but almost certainly the lingering whiff of stale beer and vomit under the Zipper. I kept turning up the air conditioner during this read."

" The Deborah Knott series is good - about a female judge who somehow always helps figure out a crime. Not too disgustingly graphic with the murders or romance scenes. Just a nice read with likeable characters and intereting circumstances. "
— Erika, 2/1/2014" Judge Deborah Knott gets involved with carnival people in this one. She discovers a long-lost niece, solves two murders and (finally) gets engaged to Dwight. "

— Helen, 1/30/2013" Maron gets her POV problems (mostly) under control in this one, and the issues of family and responsibility in the plot overrode any of the lingering POV problems. Among my favorites of the Deborah Knott novels. "
— A., 12/27/2012" Interesting and the plot thickened all throughout! "
— Annette, 12/4/2012" I have just been rereading random books from various series before de-acquisitioning them while chanting to myself, "The library has this book. The library has this series. Every library in the country has this series." Getting rid of books is hard. "
— Kelly, 10/7/2012" I enjoy this series and Slow Dollar is a great entry. It's a 5-star in the cozy mystery genre. "
— Gretchen, 7/4/2012" I've enjoyed all the Margaret Maron books I have read, but like the Deborah Knott mysteries the best. This one stands out for me. When Judge Knott finds a long-lost relative she's drawn into murders taking place in a traveling carnival. "
— Amanda, 6/14/2012" I think this series is getting a little worn out. I didn't buy the romance part of the story at all. Still, I like the character of Judge Knott so I am hoping that some of the subsequent ones pick up. "
— Robyn, 4/11/2012" My personal librarian was going to hide this book for me to take on vacation. However, she made the mistake of leaving it out to dry after cleaning it with an antibacterial wipe and I snatched it up and read it. Maybe I'll save the next in the series for vacation! "
— Kurt, 4/3/2012" Another great one from maron. I enjoyed the small behind the scenes look into the life of people who work carnivals. I never knew anything about it. A great murder mystery with an enjoyable setting. "
