"I love these books by John Sandford. I thought I'd quickly lose interest when I first read one of his books last summer, but it was so hard to put down. I plan on reading more of them. This book, like most of his others, Chief Davenport is an interesting character who is always digging to the core of the problems. He never thinks a case should be too easily solved, but seems to hate long cases. I was riveted by all the characters and thought he uses as they were all so well developed. Sandford does a good job of his characer development."

" This one is one of my favorites of the series, and it has the best ending by far! Great read. "
— Larry, 2/2/2014" Lucus always gets his man....or in this case his woman.... "
— Jim, 1/31/2014" This one has some good twists, and there was indeed fall out from the last book. Sandford continues to churn these out without falling too heavily to the traps seen in a lot of genre fiction. "
— Dale, 1/26/2014" While the first part of thid mystery is a bit confusing given that there are so many suspects, things start to make more sense as those same suspects become victims. Once the killer's identity is revealed, the real fun begins as this person is quite twisted and violent, and our hero, Lucas Davenport, is on to them. Explosive action mixed with a desperate search for a crazed killer make this a must summer read for fans of John Sandford and the murder mystery genre. "
— William, 1/26/2014" OK...exiting and gripping as always. I am glad I have all of Sandford's books (recommended to me by my cousins Kenny and Ricky). SO FAR...they are every minute white-knuckled at the edge of your seat entertaining. I am reading the Prey series in order and I love the way the story evolves. I already have the next book out......!!!!!!! "
— Pamela, 1/22/2014" Very Good; continuing character: Lucas Davenport; Competition at a bank appears to be leaving a trail of dead bodies. "
— Joe, 1/17/2014" This book gives a whole new meaning to the old phrase "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". A great book that unwinds decades of murders while investigating a recent hunting "accident". Fast Paced as one has come to expect with the Prey novels and very well written. Not a dull moment! "
— Deborah, 1/16/2014" Secret Prey by John Sandford (1998) "
— Julie, 1/11/2014" More quality Davenport! "
— Pete, 1/10/2014" Once again I wonder if some series should not be read straight through. A little time and the reading other books to clear the pallet may be needed to continue to enjoy the series. The series, in general, is not bad. But read too close together, they've become predictable. "
— Nanosynergy, 12/21/2013" My second favorite book in the Prey series right behind Winter Prey. "
— Charles, 12/4/2013" Love this series and Sandford. A very quick read for me! "
— Lia, 11/17/2013" This one started off slowly for me. Maybe it was because I started reading it at the beginning of summer and I had other things on my mind. I was so busy that when I got back to the book, I had forgotten what I already read. But then it had me hooked about 3/4 of the way through til the end. "
— Sarah, 5/20/2012" Learned more about Minnesota than I expected to and some about options and mergers. "
— Paige, 12/22/2011" More of the same, but good anyway. "
— Jen, 12/8/2011" The 1st half was not up to par - missing insights into the killers brain. But the 2nd half picked up like a normal, amazing Prey book. "
— Colin, 7/2/2011" Another road trip another Sanford book. If you have a problem with language then stay clear of his books. Big bursts of profanity just make me laugh, quickly forgotten. Sanford can really spin a yarn. Well written. "
— Cathy, 6/28/2011" find it a bit slow at first, but once I got into the middle of it I was hooked "
— Alyn, 5/18/2011" A good cop story, where once the identity of the killer is known, there's still the possibility that s/he will get away with the crime. Good characters. It helps a little to have read some of the earlier books in the series, because some of those characters and situations are referred to here. "
— Leslie, 3/14/2011" Really enjoyed this one - one of the best of the series. "
— Pauline, 2/27/2011" I think so far of all the books by Sandford that I have read, this is the best one. The plot is great, lots of twists and a believable villain. The Lucas Davenport character surrounded by the supporting cast strikes again "
— Ricardo, 2/24/2011" Great book in the Lucas Davenport series. "
— Laurie, 2/18/2011" Another road trip another Sanford book. If you have a problem with language then stay clear of his books. Big bursts of profanity just make me laugh, quickly forgotten. Sanford can really spin a yarn. Well written. "
— Cathy, 1/20/2011" I generally love all the Prey books, but this one never really grabbed me. There were too many characters introduced at the beginning of the book, and imho, a predictable suspect. "
— Kaye, 11/6/2010" Lots going on so not alot of time for reading but this was another great book by John Sandford! "
— Debbie, 9/16/2010" find it a bit slow at first, but once I got into the middle of it I was hooked "
— Alyn, 8/14/2010" This one started off slowly for me. Maybe it was because I started reading it at the beginning of summer and I had other things on my mind. I was so busy that when I got back to the book, I had forgotten what I already read. But then it had me hooked about 3/4 of the way through til the end. "
— Sarah, 8/1/2010" The main character, Lucas Davenport, is not as much of a badass as my usual detective thriller protagonist, Jack Reacher. However he is a smooth operator and I did not see Sanford's twist coming at all. A nice change from my usual Lee Child page burners. "
— carl, 7/23/2010" Another good Lucas Davenport class. I figured out the twist early on but it was still good. "
— Samantha, 5/27/2010" Lucas Davenport #9 I think that this is the first John Sandford book I read. "
— Andrea, 5/16/2010" Good, Like the ending. The bad girl got her deserves. Could have talked about her sentencing a little though. <br/> "
— Craig, 5/11/2010" More of a classic whodunnit. Lucas is an awesome character. "
